Dunno how accurate it is etc and how many are reserves and all that but it got me thinking... do we need such a large squad? Is this the way the game has gone?

Even if you had 4 players for every position that is 'only' 44 in a squad.

that was a typical bit of Sky b******s

most clubs will have that many when you take into account reserves, under 18s etc...

If you exclude the fringe, reserve team players basically our squad has around 22 players in it, sounds reasonable to me.

Well we do buy about 30 16 year old CB's for the future every summer rather than one good one so maybe. Could be long term we'll have every CB in the world hense we'll win the league with every teams back four looking like newcastles as their all at our club.

Imagine, they made some intern sit down and count how many players are in the squad (and u18 squad) just so that w***** could make a snidey point.

Why is everyone so defensive? That money should be on the pitch not on the training ground. If ManU go out and but 30 CB'S fair play they deliver in the first team but we don't. Knock of 15 of those "potential players" and spunk it on Vidic and be done with it rather than pissing about with Heinze.

...or the Newcastle approach as it's known. All of our youth signings combined, the 30 or so young players Rafa signed have probably cost £2-3m between them tops.

I f***ing hate Sky

i now hate everything about their football coverage and broadcast. the only thing sky has that adds anything to the sport is jeff stelling. everything else the company does absolutely poisons the game. it's f***ing nauseating.

Even his show has gone to s**** because of the cretins they stick on there with him. I hope Setanta get the rights to all the games in the next TV negotiations.

Jeff Stelling deserves better than the muppets he has to work with on Soccer Saturday.

Stelling is just as bad, leads the muppets off on one and they say the rest. I'm sure its a hard job he has but he is still a sky nob

I know, you'd think we were Barry Fry's Million Man Army of a Birmingham team he had..

It was an extremely snide remark. A total agenda.

b******s is he. I've heard him more than once start the ball rolling, thats going back to GED's time too.

That's his job as a presenter though. You'll find his knowledge of football - especially the lower leagues - is extraordinary. He has an excellent knowledge of the game.

He's not a Richards Keys type who has been trained to sit there in a suit and question whether rotation or zonal marking is the reason behind Liverpool failing to win by more than three goals. Better yet, he'll ask his 'guests' whether Steven Gerrard was really happy on the right wing on the night we've just beaten Barcelona in the Nou Camp.

Stelling is a professional - and seems like a top bloke.

I now hate almost everything there is about football, let alone Sky.

For the record, Arsenal have 54 players on their books.

Seems unfair. Maybe they could have three of ours? Say Kuyt and two others?
