Is that literally as good as it gets. I'm not saying it as a complaint that we will never do anything again but for sheer ecstasy and drama will that be the high of watching Liverpool from now til ever or at least very close to ever? I can only think of ridiculous scenarios like beating the mancs with the last kick of the season at Anfield to take the title that might top it.

Did we actually catch the dragon that night?

its a good point, and for me for the first few games after the final i found it hard to get excited about the game. the FA cup final in against West Ham changed all that though, and i think winning the league would be a fantastic thing to happn now as its ben ages since we won it

For me it was as good as it gets. Even if we were to clinch the league in extra time at Old Trafford it could never match the unreality of that night. It's not just the unbelievable game its the route to the final, the incredible opposition, most of all the setting, the mixture of East and West, the fantastic Turks, the red hordes in the gateway to Asia. Like Wayne I couldn't take football seriously for a long time afterwards. I do get a kick out of it now but if I had to walk away from it tomorrow I'd happily do so, I never expect to match that night again and I don't need to.

fkin 'ell.. i thought that was just me! i felt exactly the same.. weird feeling wasn't it? but you're right - that FA Cup Final, while not in the same league as Istanbul, had more than enough drama..

as games go though it will be hard to top Istanbul for sheer nerve shredding drama and excitement - the feelings i had for days after were incredible.. the only thing that's given me a similar feeling was when my little girl was born.. amazing..

Same. I think the league would probably top istanbul for me, as i'm now at an age where i can truly appreciate it.

forgot about that actually. Even the chelsea semi before was awesome.

Also take Armin's point about if it all ended now then I could possibly live with it having had that. Well I could if there were anything else in my life remotely interesting

You could look at it another way. Just how many other sets of fans have ever had a night like Istanbul? Or the whole of that CL run for that matter?

I hads thoughts about sacking off going the match after Istanbul simply because I'd seen it all.

Say we'd have won the League in 2002 or something I genuinely think there's a decent chance I'd have sacked off being a home and awayer and become a part timer.

Saying all that, it's all a bit hypothetical as whilst i thought about it I don't think it ever became a serious consideration. It's a habit and something I've grown up doing so it'd be hard to give up.

It's the greatest, nothing could recreate it.

The moment of realisation when Shevchenko missed that penalty was immense.

I don't think I've felt the same since. That season was f***ing boss. I was getting tickets for just about any game I wanted and saw some belting games. I remember after we beat Ersenal with that last minute Mellor goal I got a text off my brother saying "You'll probably never go to a better game than that" and then the Wednesday after was THAT Olympiakos game...

Since then I've struggled to get tickets for every single league game and Euro games have been a lot harder too.

Can't wait to win the league, if only to compare the 2 feelings.

Simply the greatest night of my life.

mine too, nothing comes close.

I havent really felt the same about football after it, that is as good as it gets!

I said nothing would equal this night against St Etienne as I filed out from the Paddock with my mate Pete and his brother. Then when in Rome, something did.

A few years and back in Rome, I thought nothing could be better than this - four times! Then at Stamford Bridge, two years later, Kenny turned, swiveled and shot into the corner to seal the double - it doesn't get any better....and then there was Istanbul...

It may take a while, but every time I thought 'this is as good as it gets, something would come along and top it. Eventually, Istanbul will suffer the same fate.

Istanbul is as good as it gets for me. The League is so far away, what is it 18 months, 30 months, 42 months, 54 months away??? Who knows

I don't look at it that way, must admit

Was one of the greatest moments of my life but I just love going the match.

The last minute goal at Derby had a mad goal celebration. Nothing changes in that sense for me.

Didn't he volley / prod it home from near the penalty spot ?

Took it on his chest and volleyed it in.
