In how highly we regarded some of our players and how long our managers have stuck with them?

For instance, Danny Murphy was a mainstay, but after he left he basically faded off into obscurity. I don't think Baros has done much in France and definitely didn't do much with Villa. We were onto Josemi though and as far as I know, he's done b*gger all in Spain since. It even goes down to players like John Welsh who could well be driving a van for a living for all I know.

It seems that we adulate some players who really don't deserve it. Maybe the same is with other clubs (Luke Chadwick and Christopher Wreh come to mind) but are we more guilty of it than most?

I don't think anybody considered Baros to be a superstar. He had potential though, and he has an excellent record in international football.

Don't think anyone really adulated Welsh. There was a time when he was 16 or so, when some people had high hopes for him, but few had seen him play.

Baros is a decent player, and played a very important role in winning us number 5. He was also top scorer at a major international tournament, which is a decent feat. Ultimately he didn't quite seem football intelligent enough. Murphy was also a good player, allbeit with limitations that most of us were aware of. Did some great things for us and had a lot of average games. Sort of player who when surrounded by fewer good players is likely to fade, as he has done at other clubs...

Don't think we're more guilty of other clubs in terms of supporting our players. Think it's a matter of trying to support people, even with their limitations, rather than being delusional.

In my opinion some on here over estimate how good some of our players are and don't appreciatte how good other teams players are.

I think they think they are being some sort of great LFC fan when they gig up our players and deride other team's players for being s***.

I don't think we're any more guilty of it than anyone else, but it's better that we don't adulate ANY players.

It's a team sport.

Id be happy to have some players who can both pass and receive a ball and also make run.

Anything else would be a bonus.

Of course we are biased towards our own players. We are supposed to be fanatics, we ignore our weaknesses and laugh at our rivals.

We have had a load of players recently who, truth be known, were never good enough ie Murphy, Smicer, Westerveld, Vignal, Traore to name but a few, all of whom were given one tag or another but in reality they were not that good.

One of my favourite forum posts was the one from soon loon, around the time of Gerrard to Chelsea II, that read "make him stay and sell in him 2 years, by then Potter will be ready". Fecking insane.

However, tonight I went through a list of players in my head who simply aren't good enough for us (inspired by Pennant & Bentley being discounted from a potentially awesome Arsenal). By that I mean I wouldn't want them starting week-in week-out as they're clearly not title-winning quality; some *may* be reasonable 'squad members (in a lesser-rotated squad!). It's frightening: Itandge, Arbeloa, Hyypia, Riise, Arbeloa, Aurelio, Pennant, Benayoun, Kewell, Leto, Crouch, Kuyt, Voronin.

The spine of an eleven is fine but the team needs fleshing out and the squad isn't as good as we'd like to believe. There's even question marks about some of the team (Carragher & Finnan - age, Alonso - long-term form, Mascherano - consistent quality, Gerrard - position, Babel - potential, which just leaves Torres & Reina!).

Erm, we're doomed or something.

i think you are too harsh.

arbeloa is good enough, and kewell (when fit) is quality player.oneof thebest in his position.

alonso is also a player of high quality and babel and masch and agger are potentialy top players.

but we do need more quality in our team.and i fear that the problem is bigger then just "not good enough players" because we should play much better even with the players we have.we defend well, but thats about it.we seem clueless when going forward.

Eboue.

Flamini. (although by God he's come good this season)

Phil Neville.

Darren Fletcher.

John O'Shea.

Wes Brown.

Wayne Bridge.

Mateja Kezman.

And these are just off the top of my head.

I doubt Carra would be as good if he were playing for someone else either.
