So Cal Red Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 heck, even the song goes well here! i don't know if we'll ever see another quite like Zidane - who has been the best player i have ever seen play the beautiful game... i think Ronaldinho gets close though... watching Zidane tear Brazil apart in that WC semi-final was like watching a maestro orchestrate his greatest symphony.
MFletcher Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 My favourite player ever. He really was fantastic. His QF performance against Brazil in the 2006 WC was stunning.

He really was fantastic. His QF performance against Brazil in the 2006 WC was stunning. As was his performance in the WC 2nd round - against Brazil of course. And the final. Brazil again. And group stages - yep, you guessed it - against Brazil!
The walters step over Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 As was his performance in the WC 2nd round - against Brazil of course. And the final. Brazil again. Agree with the comments, I find it interesting that we've all picked someone who used the minimum effort to get things done rather than Ronaldinho who knows every trick in the book.
Duncan Disorderly Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 (edited) Not a patch on this hero of mine... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ga5EEdyCFfs Cameraman thought he'd missed in the second one here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nlm26JH1JfM Great name, great player, Capt. of the greatest side never to have won the World Cup, smoked like a train and the only non-Irish international footballer ever to have won a GAA All-Ireland medal. Zidane is still pure poetry in motion though, definitely the greatest player of the past 25 years. Edited October 26, 2007 by Duncan Disorderly
JohnnyH Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 As was his performance in the WC 2nd round - against Brazil of course. And the final. Brazil again. And group stages - yep, you guessed it - against Brazil! And that pre-season firendly against Brazil he was on fire. Had a bit of a 'mare though againt Portugal in the league Cup 2003....actually hold on, that was Brazil.
chrisbonnie Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 The best player I've seen in my lifetime. me too, unbelivably brilliant, didnt exactly have pace, but because of his out and out skill he could beat any defender on the planet he made the simple things in football look like normality, and the difficult things seem simple, never over did anything, did the right things at the right times, kept it simple if need be, a truly magnificent player
cymrococh Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 I love watching this - http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=F65WJfJDQdE
Guest Sabre Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 I love watching this - http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=F65WJfJDQdE The best bit is him retreating to his own half, beating his man and then chipping it to the back post for a goal. My favourite player.
So Cal Red Posted October 27, 2007 Author Posted October 27, 2007 its just the effortless control & boundless vision that Zidane possessed that never failed to inspire me. he made it all look soooooo easy! i really wish he didn't retire. he probably could have still played at the highest level for a few more years.

I believe he went to UCD alright but he never won an All Ireland.
mathewbet1 Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 seen at mellwood last week, hush hush........................................just getting betting tips of cara
mick Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 Up until 2003 Socrates had never even been to Ireland!!! Alex Bellos the Brazilian based footie journalist asked him direct. Perhaps he has been here since on holidays etc. And while we are it Pele name does not come from Peile!! Best Zidane compilation on You Tube is the one featuring Rakim 'Don't Sweat the Technique'.
Mike Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 only this weekend i performed a feat of footballing skill so audacious Zidane himself would have been humbled. ask Molby.
Ronnie Whelan Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 For me, Ronaldinho comes nowhere near Zidane on the field. Ronaldinho has all the control and skills etc but is far too greedy on the field.
berdoing Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 I remember there was a game on the Spanish footy on a Sunday night when Zidane was playing for Madrid. I could swear it was at Villarreal... anyway, right near the end he did this ridiculous piece of skill where inside the area he did a 360 turn around one of the defenders and then blasted a shot that just went over. If it had gone in it would have been the best goal ever. Does anyone remember this or am I going even more mad than normal?
PhilM Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 That goal he scored in the Champions League final was s*** though. Kaizer scores them all the time with a blindfold on and his feet tied together.
