I'm very surprised a Top 4 didn't come in for him - I heard it was because his form dipped last year and he has a lack of pace (I'd dispute that though). A bit like Paul Robinson when he went to Spurs.

Was also thinking of Riise when I wrote that, and there are other similarities too - both have good stamina to get up and down the pitch, and both are useful from free-kicks (although for Riise, perhaps that should be used to be useful...). Think Bale has a bit more skill than Riise though, and has less difficulty passing the ball...

I was, but I'm not surprised we didn't go for him, at £10 million, he wasn't a priority signing for us this summer. I guess Chelsea didn't need him, not that it stopped them in the past, but Abramovich has learnt from Maurenho's expensive trasfer c**k ups not to give him an open cheque book again. Which would leave L'a*** and the mancs. Again, not a priority for Arsenal, dunno why the Mancs stopped being interested though.
