Would be terrific to have him back as I really rate him.

To be honest, I would not like to see him play many games at LM and with the form of Arbeloa, I would have Arbeloa ahead of him.

Not jumping off the deep end, but even before the good start to the season, I would still have preferred Arbeloa back there than Aurelio (taking into consideration what I had seen of both of them towards the end of last season)

In terms of defensive duties I havent been overly impressed with Fabio but maybe I am in the minority ?

Aurelio was playing some really excellent football in the 2nd half of last season, just before his achilles tear. I agree that he was weak defensively (and in all round play) at the start of the season, but he got better and better as the season wore on.

I can certainly see the argument for having Arbeloa and Aurelio as full backs at home against some of the leagues strugglers.

Depending on the form of Aurelio when he returns it may be more than just the strugglers

From my memory, when Arbeloa played well it was at LM. He had good games against Chelsea and Arsenal at home and also had a good 1st half vs Spurs away (2nd half was backs to the wall mostly). Whilst we were completely dominant against Bolton and Watford in two 3-0 victories.

From my viewpoint, I would like to stick with Babel for most games at LM in order to develop a definite talent and one we crave i.e. speed, skill and an eye for goal. I am not saying Fabio wont come into the reckoning in some games but with the pace and movement we have in our midfield (Gerrard, Benayoun, Pennant, Babel) and attack (Torres, Kuyt and Voronin) it seems that we are moulding the team in a certain way and Aurelio is not in the same dynamic mode as the rest of the team.

As I said, IMHO, I dont think his defensive game is up to the standard for us so thats why I am not jumping up and down making arguements for him at LB as I dont see him there that much.

I know I am putting my hand out to be slapped but thats how I see Aurelio and the development of this team. In fact, Aurelio could be considered one of the victims in Stevie H's thread

FABIO AURELIO was expected to make his long awaited recovery from injury in a behind closed doors friendly today.

The Brazilian is pencilled in to face Crewe in a reserve game scheduled at Liverpool’s Academy.

Providing the full- back feels comfortable enough to start, he’ll be involved for the first time since snapping his Achilles tendon in the 3-0 win over PSV Eindhoven in last year’s Champions League quarter-final first leg.

“We hope Fabio will be able to play in this game,” explained manager Rafa Benitez. “He’s been training well and now we think he is ready. It’s positive news to have him back.”

Great news re: Fabio.

Some other interesting bits in the echo article:

“I spoke to some people about this and, unfortunately, I think the journalist who wrote the story is very inexperienced,” said Benitez.

“Maybe before Pepe signed a new contract a lot of clubs wanted to talk to him, but that was many weeks ago. He is very happy at Liverpool and I don’t believe at the start of the season, with Pepe and the team playing really well, is the time to start talking about what will happen at the end of this season. The transfer window is closed and Pepe is really happy here so a story like this is not true.”

On a similar theme, however, Peter Crouch’s future may remain a subject of speculation for much of the campaign following indications he’s stalling on possible contract talks.

Crouch has two years left on his current deal but is clearly uncertain what the future holds after the arrival of Fernando Torres and Andriy Voronin - both of whom have made excellent starts to the Anfield career.

Benitez has made it clear on countless occasions he sees Crouch as a key part of his plans, but the message may not be sinking in.

Interesting about Aurelio. He has the skills and technique to be a great asset at left back, getting forward and supporting the attack and I'm sure some games will require that kind of player. The way Alvaro has started the season though is unbelievable and if he carries on that way Fabio is gonna struggle to get a game, agree with everyone else, Arbeloa should be 1st choice right now, Aurelio is still a great option to have though.

Not sure about him at left wing, think Babel could make it his own, then theres Kewell, then theres Benayoun, then theres everyones favourite Norwegian...

Crouch would be an absolute fool not to sign any new deal put in front of him (assuming ones forthcoming!).. if he goes to any other club he's going to have to work hard to get into the side, if he doesn't have to then the club wasn't worth going too.. he'd do well to read the comments Mascherano made last week about not being concerned about being out of the side, just concerned about being ready when the manager needs him..

aurelio represents the best crossing threat we have from the left.

apart from when pennant plays there ¬¬

Only 2% of his crosses from the right actually find their intended target, whereas in the one game he's played on the left (but we will use it as a representative nonetheless), only 0% of his chances were converted, and only 1.3% of his crosses found the intended target. Oh, and he never got a shot off. And has only scored 1 goal in 62.18725 games, 42.23 of which he started.
