its the first week of September

I really don't care, it's great to look at a league table and see Liverpool at the top with games in hand. Can't remember the last time that was the case.

so. United have had an easier start, Chelsea about the same level and we're currently above them (should be more, f*** off Styles)

United got off to a great start last season when lots were tipping them to finish 3rd and never looked back, we can do the same.

No need to dismiss optimism whatsoever.

given our first 4 games, we should have been expecting 10 points from them as a minimum. its a good start, but lets not get too carried away yet.

Agreed.

But at the same time, 10 points out of 12 is title-winning form. This is a very good start - more so considering how s*** we normally are at the start of the season.

I don't think anyone's getting carried away, we're just being rightfully optimistic. I still don't think we'll win the league, but there's enough to suggest we'll give it a bloody good go. It's not just the wins as well, but it's the manner of them, in Europe as well, we've started the brightest for years. 2 years ago we'd have probably got maximum 6 points from the same games, and not scored nearly as many goals.

I disagree, from our opening 4 fixtures I'd expect a minimum of 8pts because both Chelsea home and Villa away were very tough fixtures. To have 10pts after 4 games is not a minimum requirement it's a f***ing excellent start.

Let's look at it again at the end of October, when we'll still have a game a hand, and played a few more tougher games.

West Ham at home.

Am I the only one who thought we weren't that brilliant on Saturday, the tempo and goals were good, but we were playing gainst abysmal opposition.

Portsmouth away will be a good test of how we are doing.

Yes not to be carried away but the away win at Villa, led by O'Neil, is not to be sniffed at! See Chelsea

A very good start in which we played well. Question is, could we keep it up all season and grind out the games when our form dip?

villa made fools of the chavs today, we got the poinnts, just lets hope we are having the same conversarions in may :)

I'll be happier if we are having a party in April with only the trip to Moscow to worry about. ;)

second that!

I think a good point to make is that we have picked up Maximum points at a place our rivals have lost at.

Now for Pompey pick up a win there and thats already 2 points over the mancs....

We are only Four games in but it is nice to be top.

In terms of a title push I think if we take maximum points from Pompey, Wigan & Birmingham and perhaps 4 from 6 out of Spurs and the blue s**** then, Its On. Nine games in and 23 out of 27 is not too bad. 25 would be better.

I'd have gone f***ing spare if we hadn't have beaten Villa. It was a straightforward game and Chelsea f***ing up doesn't make it anything but that.

Arsenal's start is arguably more impressive. Great result for them against Portsmouth.

I'm encouraged by the obvious improvement we've shown, and the quick bedding in of the new lads, but it's very early days. Like Knox says, it's a case of us winning games we should be winning. If we keep doing that, and then win against United/Arsenal/Chelsea, then things start to look good.

They've won 3 home games you'd expect them to win and failed to win in their only away game thus far. They've looked half decent, but the fixtures they've had certainly aren't harder than ours have bee. Far too early to be drawing too many conclusions about anyone though.
