From this report, this section in particular caught my eye - what the f*** is this all about?

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/foo...icle2241874.ece

When Fernando Torres decided that 2007 was to be his last year at Atletico Madrid he instructed his agent to arrange a transfer to England, with Manchester United his preferred destination.

Their interest palled, however, perhaps wary of an average of 14 League goals a campaign over the Spaniard’s last three and unltimately happier to gamble on Carlos Tevez’s more earthy style of forward play. Ryan Babel had been observed by Arsenal for years to the conclusion that the Dutchman was good, but not quite good enough

Why do these w*****s get paid?

Didn't bother reading on.

Torres’ shooting was less precise. His movement troubled the Villa defence – Olof Mellberg was soon booked for cutting him down from behind – the Spaniard broke free on both left and right only to fire dramatically over and well wide.

On 31 minutes, he missed again when Kuyt teed him up 12 yards from goal, yet was spared growing doubts when Villa’s defence completed the job for him.

Torres must have goosed this fella's bird or something, he hates him.

Maybe he's a Manc ? Fergie has admitted they tried to sign him several times but was always turned down.

The positive about Torres is that he is already linking well with the team and seems to be developing a good understanding with Kuyt.

I read this piece this morning and was soo pissed, I sent a comment to them.

So our 2 latest signing's weren't wanted by United or Chelsea. ffs, the can just make stuff up and the masses will lap it up. Won't be surprised if its mentioned on Sky when we play United and Arsenal.

There is a mindset with many of these reporters which has Liverpool placed permanently in a pigeon hole of under-achievers. I suspect some of these guys are not passionate football fans but journo graduates who have drifted into sports writing. They don't really seem to know what it is theyre watching and consequently write in cliches. Arsenal, United and Chelsea did it so it must be great. Liverpool do it so it must be ...mediocre.

The fact is no true football enthusiast could fail to be lifted out of their seats by the magnificence of the move leading to Liverpooll's opener. The exhilarating first time 35 yard pass from Gerrard was alone worthy of the admission price. Kuyt's dummy and subsequent spin into the box was sensational. Torres own spin around the defender more so. His finish?...okay it should go in but these things happen. Yet the hunger and desire of Kuyt to carry on his own run and retrieve a lost cause was just compensation. It was reminscent of a Steve mcmahon cameo next to the paddock years ago. All told it was a move that would have done justice to the Brazilians of 1970 or the Dutch of 1974.

I guess in the end as long as we know the score is all that matters. It is a pain though to read the shoite time after time.

Hadn't you realised we only signed Torres and Babel because the Mancs and Arsenal respectively decided they weren't good enough? Keep up.

The writer sounds like a tottenham supporter.

Mirror ratings: :notrelatedtoanyforummember4:

LIVERPOOL

Reina 6, Finnan 6, Carragher 7, Agger 7, Arbeloa 6, Pennant 7, Alonso 6, Gerrard 7, Riise 7, Kuyt 6, TORRES 8.

Did they just pluck these ratings out of thin air?

Pennant & Riise 7... played better than Kuyt and as well as Gerrard...

:D :D I'd be angry if the papers' comments weren't so funny.

Anyone who can't see what Torres has got or thinks there are 'growing doubts' about him a) has never watched football b) isn't on strong enough medication.

Hilarious these clowns have jobs as sports writers!

If you think those comments are bad read Rod Liddle's alleged humour.

He reckons one of the worst sights is "Anfield with it's yellow ribbons and black armbands". And this is in a column where he's basically moaning that Joanthan Ross earns more than him. Nothing to do with football whatsoever.

You could be right, but my theory is that they don't actually watch it.

absolutely nothing about the game in the papers over here . :):)

it will be worse in the Monday papers when the writers realise we are 2 points ahead of the Mancs.

the TV guys are just as bad, whoever did the Manc game today was making me sick and the 2 jerks who did our game paid us very few compliments.

maybe it's just us being over sensitive??

rod liddle's a sh*thouse though.

Apparently the Times actually had to have a word with him last year over his anti Liverpool-ness. They were getting a lot of weekly complaints about him and he then got worse, so they pulled him to one side.

Love to meet him though :mischief:

So was it you who tw4tted him a while ago, giving the tw4t a black eye.

Shame you never caned his skull in, like someone will do one day.

Never Mind. One paper today says Fergie has gone in for Alves.

Don't tell me, it's because we don't attack enough?

Didn't explain it. I was more a supplement talking about all the grounds for visiting fans, but had a few stats from last season and a predicted finish for this.

So who did they have above us? Chelsea, Arsenal, Scum U and...?
