I have a feeling we'll take a leap into getting a defender again in the window. I'm not comfortable with our lack of action in that area this summer.

I think the point is that before the season starts you don't know how signings are going to work out. The formula "won the title last year + signed big names = nailed on for the title next year" doesn't work, as illustrated by Chelsea last year and ManU in 99 when they signed Veron.

In the next few seasons United will have to replace Giggs (Nani) and Scholes (Anderson). These two players have been central to their sustained success and are coming to the end of their careers. I believe last season was a swansong for Scholes. The guy is class and will be very hard to replace. United needed to break the bank for these guys.

 

It'll be interesting to see how Tevez and Rooney link up.
