Guest RoRed Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 It does seem well near certain that this summers signing of senior talent is all but completed. In reviewing our squad I have given my own interpretation. In doing so I have looked at the outfield only and tried to think of the squad in relation to the area of the pitch we have players and then the number of players who will then compete for places.I have assumed we will sign Heinze In essence I have split it into the following and assumed we will have 5 players competing for 2 places Right side............RB & RWCentre back........2 centre backsLeft side..............LB & LWCentre MidfieldStrikers I have then thought about what I think Rafa sees as requirements in his players.............tangible assets such as technique, athleticism, skill, power, speed AND an ability to play in more than 1 position........possibilities probably covers it. RIGHT SIDE....................Finnan, Arbeloa,Pennant,Bennayoun,Gerrard CENTRE BACK.................Carragher,Agger,Sami,Arbeloa,Heinze LEFT SIDE.......................Heinze, JAR , Aurelio,Arbeloa, Kewell,Leto,Babel CENTRE MIDFILED...........Gerrard, Mascherano,Alonso,Momo, Lucas STRIKERS.......................Torres, Kuyt, Crouch, Voronin, Babel Seems we have finally some impressive depth and an ability to rotate players, rotate formations........from the standard 4 4 2 to 4 3 3 ....and thru myriad combinations of 4 5 1 , to 4 2 3 1..................and possibly 3 5 2 Looking at what I have loosely demed the 2 left side positions.......it would appear we do have too many players....though it could be said JAR and Aurelio could move forward into the LW position. This is something we lack on the right side....unless we do spring what I would deem a surprise if we bought Alves. that also excludes Insua who is coming into everyones thoughts but really he is more for the future and not this season. I am impressed with the depth we seem to have and the relative youth of 20-23 year olds............Torres,Lucas, Momo,Leto,Agger.Masch,Babel. In fact add to these the other players signing long contracts.........we know who.....all I can do is offer a big thumbs up to Rafa and the board for backing up words with action. TACTICS AND HOME & AWAY FORM A quick review of our home form shows we need some minor improvements in goal scoring should overcome the teams that come to Anfield with the sole ambition of parking the bus..............the Portsmouths, Blackburns and Man U of this world.Gaining an extra 5 or 6 points at home won't hurt a bit. Not a lot to comment on here. When looking at our away form a few things I think we need to 'acknowledge".....................Rafa bought Crouch and specifically mentioning away games.Kuyt's away record is not good.In away games the opposition need to come on to us more.Fine....we have a good defence and midfield and generally we can absorb that in most games. The main issue has been being able to breakaway and score goals.....what a surpise. Measuring the quality of chances we create however is for another thread. Crouch may find himself absorbing the impact of a frontrunners role with the Torres alongside and then wideplayers and subs to add the blistering speed required to exploit more space.................Am only going to add this 1 line up.....for the game at Villa and see if I am right ......a 4 4 2 Combination Reina Finnan Carra, Agger, Heinze Gerrard Masch Alonso Kewell Torres Crouch Importantly will be the roles of subs such as Babel, Pennant,Voronin , Kuyt. As the opposition tire....we the throw on the speed merchants and clever ballplayers.dependant on the score if we need to chase a goal the front 6 could be something like Gerrard Alonso Pennant Voronin Babel Torres Assuredly he has built a large squad and knowing as we do Rafas use of rotation it's hard not to see use of all players. Exciting times.......thanks for reading my 2 nd only post and maybe it can lead to me debate about how we shall line up.

Dominus Maximus Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 You lost me when you assumed we already signed Heinze. Oh and where is Mancini and Van der Vaart in all this?
Kvarme Ate My Food Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 You lost me when you assumed we already signed Heinze. Oh and where is Mancini and Van der Vaart in all this? this is exactly the sort of stuff you used to write when you first came on here, so lay off bullying new people, eh?
Dominus Maximus Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 (edited) this is exactly the sort of stuff you used to write when you first came on here, so lay off bullying new people, eh? It wasn't bullying, it was joking... And it was honest. I read the first part, but when Heinze was introduced i skimmed the rest, and put in my reply. Edited July 15, 2007 by Flamingo Crouch
Smith Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 Without being funny, I hate posts like this. Why, is it too long for you?
Rimbeux Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 I think it's a bloody good description of where we are at and what we've been up to
fyds Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 To be fair, when they came to Anfield last season an stole a last gasp one-nil, 'parking a bus' was a pretty fair description of their tactics that day.
Andy @ Allerton Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 Without being funny, I hate posts like this. With that first bit I thought you were going to crack a joke
Guest RedIsMyColour Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 Why, is it too long for you? No, its just inane rambling. No one has any clue what Rafa will do this season. Tactical or player wise.
Clay Davis Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 Rafa is not a bloody complete mystery you know, that is sensible guesswork and an overview of where we are now.
Guest spk Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 Without being funny, I hate posts like this. posts like this really f*** me off. theres no rational explanation there why you hate "posts like this", let alone the what particular characteristic of this kind of post that irritates you so greatly. its fine to disagree with someone, not enjoy their style of writing (which is regularly pretty poor on the old intertron) or wonder why they bothered expressing themselves in the first place. if you feel the need to reply to a post though behave like an adult and 'use your words'.

David Hodgson Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 i hate posts like this This kind, really sucks. And this one too. I hate the sort of person who replies to unfunny smart-alec posts like this one as well.

New York Red Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 Without being funny, I hate posts like this. F*cking leave him alone. It's a football forum about Liverpool. And don't sweat it, you weren't funny. You sound like Simon Cowell talking like that.
hideNseek Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 To be fair, when they came to Anfield last season an stole a last gasp one-nil, 'parking a bus' was a pretty fair description of their tactics that day. They often play like that against the bigger clubs and then get lauded in the press about how they out attack all other teams when really they only out attack the weaker teams.
Kahnee Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 No, its just inane rambling. No one has any clue what Rafa will do this season. Tactical or player wise. Might as well close the forum lads, discussion is now as pointless as crossing
Stevie H Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 No, its just inane rambling. No one has any clue what Rafa will do this season. Tactical or player wise.if this forum banned inane rambling then every member here would have a post count in the negative. big speculative posts about how we might play this season are infinitely more interesting than the s**** in the transfer thread.
Mike Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 inane ramblers to the left of me, speculative c**** to the right. yew deciiiiiide.
