magneto Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 We've got rid of two left-sided players so those options are quite limited now. Perhaps Rafa sees Riise as a left wing for the coming season assuming he gets Heinze.
Swipe Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 Must be weird to be sold by the club you support. Was never quite good enough for us and I think £9M is a good deal. That's almost half what we paid for Torres so let the 'net' merchants start their calcs! Would be horrible. Last summer he must have been pinching himself. Now he knows he's being shipped out of his dream club. It's a shame in a way, as he could be a useful squad man. But I agree he just wasn't at that level.
magneto Posted July 6, 2007 Author Posted July 6, 2007 Don't think Rafa used him correctly to be honest. He reminded me a lot of Beardsley (stature and playing-wise). He was our paciest striker though until Torres came along. Suppose Voronin was always going to be Bellamy's replacement.

Beardsley was a football genius, Bellamy is nowhere near that level of control. Compare Bellamy to Nigel Clough maybe but not Peter Beardsley.
Stevie H Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 Don't think Rafa used him correctly to be honest. He reminded me a lot of Beardsley (stature and playing-wise).who, bellamy? are you nuts?
Benitez Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 Don't think Rafa used him correctly to be honest. He reminded me a lot of Beardsley (stature and playing-wise). He was our paciest striker though until Torres came along. Suppose Voronin was always going to be Bellamy's replacement. how was he suposed to use him then oh footballing genius. And there is little to compare to Beardsley. If only there was. And if there was, Bellamy wouldn't be on his way out now would he.
magneto Posted July 6, 2007 Author Posted July 6, 2007 how was he suposed to use him then oh footballing genius. What was what for? I'm just expressing a thought. I don't think he (Benitez) used him correctly. Thats all I said.
Mondavi Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 Beardsley was a football genius, Bellamy is nowhere near that level of control. Compare Bellamy to Nigel Clough maybe but not Peter Beardsley.
Falconhoof Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 so Bellamy is more comparable to Beardsley is he ?
honourablegeorge Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 I'd agree on Bellamy to an extent - I think he suffered from our style of play somewhat though. You could argue that Kuyt wasn't used correctly either - he spent most of his time working wide areas and midfield, whereas his goals tally in Holland would suggest that he's better deployed up front. Bellamy's game was always about working the wide areas as much as it was about goals - the fact that he rarely had a man in the box to play off hurt him, but I think he suffered even more from lack of time on the pitch, both through injury and rotation, and he was definitely under a cloud with the court case, until the Wigan away game where he kicked into form. Hopefully some quality in wide areas (if it arrives) will allow out strikers to spend more time being strikers.
ManxRed Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 Are we talking about Colin Beardsley, my local fishmonger?

floyd the barber Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 think its more to do with the way bellamy runs with his shoulders hunched and head down...does remind me of beardsley in that way.............other than that, well a huge difference in terms of footballing quality....
RP Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 This really should be made a sticky thread and refered to every time the 'football genius' passes comment on anything to do with football. Imo, of course.
Tones Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 Sorry Magneto. Apart from being ugly, those two have nothing in common. I dont mind Bellamy, but he isnt anyhere near the class of Beardsley.
eth Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 Bellamy was our best player for a period of time earlier in the season. I think he's leaving mostly because of off the field behaviour, and possibly vulnerability to injuries, rather than a lack of ability.
Mondavi Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 so Bellamy is more comparable to Beardsley is he ? errr, who said that bellamy is f**k all like clough or beardsley. both comparisons are ridiculous.
Lee W Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 He reminded me a lot of Beardsley (stature and playing-wise).
Billy Dane Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 He reminded me a lot of Beardsley (stature and playing-wise). Oh, it's Friday afternoon isn't it.
Falconhoof Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 errr, who said that bellamy is f**k all like clough or beardsley. both comparisons are ridiculous. I was making the point that comparing Beardsley to Bellamy was ridiculous. Learn to comprehend English before diving in.
anfield Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 How on earth is Bellamy getting a 70,000/week contract......if true
Hassony Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 How on earth is Bellamy getting a 70,000/week contract......if true well lucas niell is getting that so why not bellamy
Knox_Harrington Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 How on earth is Bellamy getting a 70,000/week contract......if trueBecause his agent said he's just like Peter Beardsley. Just like him.
anfield Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 LOL Torres on 90,000, but Bellamy is close at 70,000.....something is wrong with the way that valuation works
