What a goal Masch scored against Paraguay. Cleverly placed in the lower corner of the goal. Hopefully, he'll keep his scoring boots on come August.

Get in there Mascher lad - what a footballer he is. Great to see him doing so well on the international scene as well, it'll have him coming back here full of confidence ahead of the new season...

PS sign that lad on the left wing for Argentina whoever he is. ;)

that's his first goal, ever

Have I mentioned before that I think this guy is an absolute star? Amazing stamina with a footballing brain to go with it.

Just can't see him leaving before the loan deal is up, he seems to love it here and has a lot of respect for Rafa, also he was first choice central midfielder towards the end of the season so why would he leave a club who have shown so much faith in him after the way he was treated at West Ham?

My only worry is whether we will be able to structure a deal at the end of the 18 month loan

He scored at least one for River Plate (it was in the Copa Libertadores 2005 against Olmedo of Ecuador), and

might be it (I'm not certain - it's a cracking goal anyway!).

The recent talks he is only on a loan deal and wanting to get away is worrying. Hope we can tie him down asap.

I don't think it was a case of him wanting away Mercury, more a case of people speculating and sayign it wouldn't be his choice. I get the impression he really loves it here - the fact that we rescued him from West Ham and allowed him to help us to a CL final helps

MSI can't just tell him to go somewhere else. I know the deal is a bit bizarre with them, but it's just silly to think they can sell him anywhere without the player's consent - he's not a slave. His contract is just with them rather than a club so they can no more make him go anywhere else than we could make Baros go to Lyon when they were offering us far more for money for than Villa.

Anyway, we have almost certainly paid MSI several million pounds for the 18 month loan, so it stands to reason they aren't allowed to just sell him elsewhere when we've already paid for his services. It was a lazy, made up story to fill column inches with absolutely nothing to justify it - the article needed ignoring totally. Of course he hasn't bought a house on Merseyside, he's still on loan for f*cks sake so why buy a house if he may only be in it for another year?

The fact is that Mascherano is here for another season, I'd stake my life on it.

Rafa wants him here, the player wants to be here and the deal is set that he stays for at least another season end of story. My biggest worry is, as has been said that we don't have a fee written in for the end of the loan already. We absolutely have to sign him permanently at the end of next season, but I think he's going to be recognised as one of the best central midfielders in the Premier League within a few months of the coming season and his value will rise even further.

I'd be gutted if he went elsewhere next summer, but I'm hopeful Rafa won't let that happen under any circumstances. He obviously rates the player extremely highly and I'm hopeful we agreed the transfer fee when we agreed the loan. Even at the mooted fee of £16m I'd pay it in a flash and sign him up for 6 years.

I love the fact we've got an Argentinean international playing for us.

I always wanted us to sign Batistuta who was one of my favourite strikers of all time.

Thank f*ck United didn't get him despite Fergie's repeated attempts.

Did they? I hadn't noticed...

What relevance has that got to me hoping United didn't sign a player I particularly liked?

Touchy Leo.

That was a beautiful goal from Masch. I think we will try to tie him down to a long term deal before xmas, would be an excellent long term acquisition considering his age and obvious ability.

Christ I'd forgotten that. He seemed to take a disproportionate amount of glee and smugness whenever he said it too.

Probably one of the first names on the sheet as well. The only one who played every minute at the last world cup.
