Dave_the_Red Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 by David Prentice, Liverpool Echo LIVERPOOL’S new “singing” section of the Kop could house almost 2,000 fans. Fans who have asked the club to create a separate section for more “traditional” supporters hope the new area will be called the “1892 Block.” The historical link is obvious – Liverpool FC was founded in 1892 – but a spokesman for Reclaim The Kop, the body behind the singing section initiative, said: “The area is probably going to be called 1892 Block, not just for the obvious reason but because there will be 1,892 seats. “It will be a section that espouses the traditional values of fair, loud, spontaneous support that has made Liverpool FC and the Kop world famous. "Singing section probably gives the wrong impression. This is a block where supporters who are in tune with the club's history and customs can congregate - fans who understand the Liverpool Way. “If our support is to stay 'special', fans need an example that is home-grown, innovative and uniquely Liverpudlian. 1892 Block can provide inspiration, not just for the team on the pitch but for the fans in the stands, too.” The Kop currently seats 12,000 fans in total. Discussions are ongoing with the club about re-introducing a limited window sale for the new section so that under-16s and others without access to credit cards and computers will have a chance to queue up and buy a ticket. Reclaim The Kop campaigners advise fans who wish to move to 1892 Block NOT to renew their current seats, but instead fill in the renewal form, attaching a brief note requesting to move to 1892 Block. Groups of supporters wishing to be seated together need to staple all renewal forms together along with a covering letter listing all names in the group. Initially, current season ticket holders in any part of the ground who wish to swap their existing seat for one in 1892 Block can do so by registering their name, fancard number and current seat number with RTK c/o Somebodieas listening?
Cobs Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 think it's a terrible idea meself and a recipe for division amongst our own there, i said it.
cymrococh Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 think it's a terrible idea meself and a recipe for division amongst our ownthere, i said it.I agree.
Fagan Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 i agree, its almost like creating a VIP area in the kop. a class system of sorts. who'd have thunk it
Edvard Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 What about the people who currently sit where this block will be? What if they don't want to move?
cymrococh Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 What about the people who currently sit where this block will be? What if they don't want to move? All must comply to RTK's wishes or be proclaimed meffs and outcast.
Cobs Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 What about the people who currently sit where this block will be? What if they don't want to move? then they'll just have to be re-educated in the Liverpool Way then wont they?
Row47 Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 then they'll just have to be re-educated in the Liverpool Way then wont they? I sit in bloch 205 just in front and can not wait for the 1892 boys to replace the family section. What was it doing in the middle of the KOP anyway
JohnnyH Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 What an amazingly elitest, divisionary, and s**** article. It reads as if he's saying the rest of the fans have no idea of the clubs history or how to be a "proper" Liverpool fan. As a non ST ooter who gets to about 12-15 games a season, I have to say I totally resent that article. If anything this has made be more anti-RTK then I've ever been. Quite frankly, they can f*** off and stick their charter right up their well laid arses.
Red_Rob Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 All Kopites are equal, but some are more equal than others. Terrible idea.
Tones Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 think it's a terrible idea meself and a recipe for division amongst our ownthere, i said it. I also agree
Dan Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 I also agree Would p*ss myself if all the applications were filled out by oot's
DanielS Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 How long until the demands for a share of the gate receipts come from the "RTK Choir"?
Gunga Din Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 i've said it before, but i absolutely hate the entire RTK thing. all it has done is cause divisions amoung the fan base, and this is just going to make it a whole lot worse.
Spike Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 I think we should also have a section for miserable moaning c**** at the game as well so I don't have to be near any of them.
johngibo YPC Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 (edited) I agree with what they are trying to do, but everytime they open their mouths i end up cringing!! just to support them on a couple of points people have made though- The seats they are going into used to be the adult/child section (back of the kop). They were moving this section anyway as they have had so many complaints from parents who said their kids couldn't see anything as everyone stands up. - Anyone can sit in this section if they want to. You only have to ask. If you don't want to move there then don't- the main organisers have never made this a local v OOT thing. In fact many of them are OOTers themselves. AE Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 It would be funny if half the people who got "selected" turn out to be the buggers that sit on their hands all game
johngibo YPC Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 I think we should also have a section for miserable moaning c**** at the game as well so I don't have to be near any of them. its called the Main Stand
Gilps Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 - the main organisers have never made this a local v OOT thing. In fact many of them are OOTers themselves. Didn't take a genuis to see that that's what it would become to a lot of people though.

I am sure you are right, especially on the bit in bold. But ... the intention is lost in translation. The driving force behind the campaign is undoubtable in its intention but the implementation of it has been poor. Poor beyond belief, in fact.

JohnnyH Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 I think a section for people who will sing all game is a great idea. Just somebody needs to reign in these anti-ooter g*******s and tell them that we are in danger of becoming a laughing stock.
RP Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 And I think it reflects badly on the club that they have validated it. Again, no doubt good in its intention - but to choose just one group of fans to listen to (if that is what they have done) is b*llocks. I am not opposed to the RTK lot but I am not happy at all to have them speaking on my behalf.
