the lad has had a serious injury, maybe it's a case of making sure everything is a-ok with him first.

I really think (and hope!) that Luis will have a role here in the next few seasons.

Where is Garcia at the moment? Is he involved with the squad or back in Spain recuperating.

Was he not on that clip of training posted last week, mainly focusing on Kewell??

I don't think he will ever be good enough to hold down a place in the team, but is a decent squad player to have.

ain't that a bit of a mad statement, being as he has held down a spot in the team in the previous two season

Maybe in the future he won't play 50 games a season for us, but he'd still play plenty.

I'm sure I read that he will get an extension and he wants to sign up too, but it'll be sorted out once he is 100% fit.

Lil Luis is my favourite player so can't wait to see him back in the red shirt.

What is his best position?

He isn't a winger, but has filled in there many times. He has been in the team more often than not when fit, but was moved all over the pitch, as he isn't good enough to hold down a specific position.

He can be a great little player at times, scoring some brilliant goals, but he is a bit of a luxury player.

Even now before the influx of (hopefully) top quality players he would struggle to get in the team, but is still a very decent squad player to have.

What do we think his future holds?

Lots of players are getting extensions as per this article and many others

http://home.skysports.com/list.aspx?hlid=4...tball_home&

But Garcia, who signed at the same time as Xabi and well before Reina doesn't appear to be extending. Is his future elsewhere?

I've just seen the press conference where this story came from and Rafa just lists the names of a few others in contract negotions when prompted by a reporter. Therefore the fact that Luis wasn't mentioned isn't too big a deal hopefully. If he's fit and wants to sign then I'm sure they'll get something sorted out this summer.

Absolute balls.

And I'm still struggling with the contradiction between your comment here, that he's a "decent squad player", and your later comment that he's a "bit of a luxury".

I agree with the above poster luis is a part of the squad , can often change a game and score a great goal but i would never have him in a first choice eleven for us.He is way too inconsistent but you gotta still love him

Like the captain you mean?

I'm not sure he will get an extension., The poster who is a friend of his indicated some potential issues some time back and has studiously avoided the thread where I asked him for an update on rawk.

Reasonable arguement.

So what is his best position? and where would he fit into our best team?

I don't see the contradiction, as away from home especially in the league, he has been the perfect example of a luxury. Very few teams would have been able to carry him during these games when all he did with the ball was give it back.

That doesn't mean he isn't a decent squad player, who can often be the difference especially at home when we have so much of the ball, but struggle to break teams down.

I remember defending Garcia on here before and my opinion of him hasn't changed since then. I hope he stays with us for a another few years, but I just don't see where he would fit into our best team.

Gerrard not good enough to hold down a specific position? ;)

Scoring goals. That'll do me...

In one of the many interviews with Rafa, Parry, Tom H or George G this week, when the subject of new contracts was brought up one of them at least did mention Luis would be offered one - may well have been Tom H.

Off the main striker

The Guardian seem to have picked up on fact his name's been mentioned before...

"Benítez has opened contract talks with his key pair Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher and is also to offer improved terms to Xabi Alonso, Luis García, José Reina, Daniel Agger and Steve Finnan."

Rafa doesn't mention him though.

You talked a few weeks ago about trying to tie down some senior players on longer contracts. How is that going?

We have had conversations with four or five of them. We decided to stop the conversations because we were in the semi-finals of the Champions League. Now we will talk again and try to finish something before the final, but okay, if we cannot do it we will try and do it after. These players have contracts and it's not a problem. We need to show them that we want to do a deal, because if you don't do anything they want to know why. We are really close with one, two or three, and also with the young players we are really close.

Which players are you talking about?

Steven Gerrard, Xabi Alonso, Pepe Reina, Carra, Finnan and the young players.
