Simao has impressed once again this term and Benfica pulled off a notable coup in March as they persuaded the 27-year-old to sign a long-term deal.

Benfica confirmed last month that Simao's buy-out clause stands at ?20,000,000 (£13.5million) and it would appear that this sum has not thrown Liverpool off the scent.

"Simao is certainly not forgotten," Parry told Portuguese daily O Jogo.

"We have not yet put any real thought into this, we have taken no decision, but we have not moved away from the hypothesis to come back and negotiate when the transfer window opens.

"Since our official bid for the player (August 2005), we have not had any more conversations with the club but, in the summer, we don't know if we will come back again."

I think he's a good little player but he's not £13.5m worth, and I'm not sure he's quite good enough to help take us to the next level.

He'd improve us on the left but not that much.

He's not as good as he was when we originally wanted him. Nor is he good enough for LFC.

Don't think the first part is true, and while he wouldn't be my first choice he certainly has enough ability to play for us.

Also we'd be improved significantly just by his delivery from set pieces.

Pennant's delivery over the last two months or so has improved significantly. I think (from what I've seen admittedly not live but on the box) that he has been Liverpool's most improved player in that time

When you buy players, and for that kind of large sums, they need to strengthen your team considerably. But Pennant is on fire, and if this is his level along with Gerrards ability to play on the wing, I really don't see what Simao should do here at Anfield...

Mancs going for him.

Maybe they are but we are now competing with the like of the Mancs for players, we now have the financial muscle to go for whoever we want.

Didn't these quotes turn up a few weeks ago?

Same point but with different quotes which is probably where the "but we have not moved away from the hypothesis to come back and negotiate when the transfer window opens." comes in ie our stance hasnt changed since the last time you t***s asked,

The quotes from a month ago.

"At the moment we do not have any negotiations," Parry told O Jogo.

"The end of the season is soon and that will be the time to see."

He's better than any option we currently have for the left wing. Assuming Kewell never returns properly

Cant say as i know which side he's best on but i know he can play both

I think he's one of those players like Pires who is actually better playing on the left so he can cut in and shoot with his right. He offers a serious goal threat by doing that and is good enough with his left to still go outside and put a decent ball in.

My issue with Simao is he doesn't beat players easily enough. He's a bit similar to Pennant in many respects (excellent crosser of the ball, great technique, nippy but doesn't rip full backs apart - more likely to cross from slightly deeper) even down to him having failed at a big club at a young age.

I wouldn't say I'd be disappointed if we signed him, but for me Simao is over-priced and there are better options. Of the two Portuguese wingers we're allegedly interested in I'd rather Quaresma because he's more what we haven't got already.

Roughly translated into.

Benfica: Simao sign a new deal so the new rich Liverpool owners will be forced to pay over the odds if they still want you in the summer.

He's not good enough or consistant enough.

Scores goals, gets assists, great at set pieces, decent pace, can beat players despite what people say but wont be rated by many until he starts doing stepovers.
