Just wondering like.

When I went with my dad I've queued up with him for hours before the turnstiles opened to make sure we got in. There was no police, no queue jumping, just an orderly queue.

The longest I've actually queued was Priory Road once for a Leeds United home game over Easter, never got in :(

I was also first in the queue for the Barcelona semi-final game when Phil Thompson scored. I got to the ground at 1pm, and my dad arrived around 5pm with some butties.

Anyone else got stories.

I remember me Dad taking me firstly he`d put me in the Boy`s Pen, then go into the Kop, I used to climb over the fence, then join me Dad, I remember queing for a cup game Swansea (got beat  ) If I remember there was about 26/28 thousand in the Kop, stunk of Pi**, bag of chips on the way if lucky, or sometimes me M8 who`s Dad owened the pub on the corner of Lower Breck Rd, we pinch some lemonade, then go across the Road to the little Bakers go down stairs to it where me Uncle worked, he used to give us some cakes, and does anyone remember those mini Hovis`s hot with butter :) used to walk the ground queue up full up, enjoy the game walk home

Ahhh the old days,

Me and me dad used to visit me granddad Saturday morning at his flat up the end of Walton Breck Road.

Have lunch with granddad and then walk up to the ground, past the Kop and into the paddock. Went in the Stands a few times when a mate of his got us tickets but it wasn't as much fun turning up at 2:40 and walking straight in.

Remember those bogs in the old Kop. The old serving hatch selling pies and teas up at the back too.

I used to queue to get onto the kop. Used to get there really early, and just wait for the doors to open, and then go stand somewhere about half way down on the Kemlyn rd side, no use for me to stand in the middle, I'd see fec all.

No stories, as the most times I went while it was still standing was actually when Souness was manager, cos that was when I moved over to Manchester to college, so I could get to all the home games easy. Before then I used to get the bus to a few games, but we always got tickets in advance. So, it being the 'Souness years' I don't have any great stories of wonderful games and sucesses

I do recall a game, it was Grand National day - and it was when we actually still played on that day. Kick off was really early, could even have been 11am  I think we wher playing Ipswich, it was a really really s*** game, and we won 1-0, I think Julian Dicks scored a peno. Anyway, reason I remember it, is cos it was the day after Kurt Cobain died, and there was these 2 lads sat on the steps in front of me, in Nirvana t-shirts, looking depressed as hell, and the game served up to them after, won't have helped much.

Also I remember being very chuffed one day cos I got a voucher to buy a ticket for the last game on the standing kop, so all them weeks of dragging me a*** over early to watch our worst team in years, was worth it ;)

Used to queue to get on the old Kop even when I had a season ticket. Purely so me and my mate could have a race up the steps and then down to the front.

It seemed important to get there stupidly early, but we were kids then and had no pubs to go to.

I remember my uncle taking me when I was about 10 and geting me (a bit) pissed in the Winslow beforehand (therefore not remembering too much about it).

Bear in mind, this was the same uncle who took my brother to an everton game.

Queued at the cash turnstiles loads of times. First ever time was a EUFA (on the programme) cup game against AEK Athens in 1973 (?). Got the door slammed in my face against Everton that season and always got there really early for the big matches from then on.

Shankly's testimonial was another memorable game I got there early for, still got the programme too. The atmosphere had loads of time to develop because once into the Kop there was a real struggle to get back for a pee or whatever so sometimes you were standing around for 2 hours bored.

The only bit I don't miss about the Kop as was was the falling over with the big pushes and people standing on you(!).

my first trip to anfield, during centenary week, resulted in me queueing for tickets, only to be told the only ones remaining were in with the spurs fans in the anny road stand - so that's where i watched our 2-1 victory, s*** scared of being in the middle of quite a few neanderthal wnakers.

on the bus back to belfast the following day, i overheard a conversation from the seats directly in front of me. a spurs fan was telling the guy beside him how the only ticket he could get was in the Kop...

Ditto. Not sure if it was the same game..but I queued from before lunch to get into the game vs Leeds in the 73-74 season (1-0 to us, Heighway). That was their best league season ever and it was probably THE match of the season.

I also queued for ages to get into the last game of the season vs Villa - when we won the league and Avi Cohen scored at both ends. Despite getting there early, the Kop gates shut just as I was getting to the head of the queue. So I legged it down to the Anfield Road and queued with the Villa fans for the away end. They had nowt to play for and were happy enough to have a Scouser in their midst. They even moved to give me a better spec for the presentations. Can't see it happening these days (and I wouldn't try it!)

Biggest queue I remember was just after Shankly died, when Toshack brought Swansea up when they were top of the league. The Kop queue went right back down towards Priory that day, and I got in about half time.

There was a right barstad copper at the kids turnstile on WB Road. Mean little tache he had, would have his horse bouncing kids all over the show and there'd be horse-sh*te everywhere.

I thought that was one of the most exciting things about getting to the game and seeing people queing hours before kick off. As kids we used to get onto the Kop hours before Kick Off to sit on top of a crash barrier knowing full well you would be off it long before the game began.

It was great back then seeing the opposing players come out and inspect the pitch. They seemed to love to hear the abuse and have a laugh.

I remember getting into the Kop early one night for a testimonial game against Celtic and there were more of their fans in the Kop than hours. It was a wierd feeling. I can't remember whose testimonial it was but it had to be 1973 or 74ish.

Aye. Used to queue up to get in the Kop from about 11:00, gates opened by 1.00, brilliant spec until 2:59 when Liverpool's tallest man used to plonk himself, swaying, right in front of me. Some games all I remember is the smell of the turf and the beery breath of someone next to me.

Thats Ipswich one on Grand National was my first Anfield match. Also paid at the Kop. Flew over on manx airlines, got quizzed by cops on arrival and then won 80 quid on minnehoma after paying a fiver to go to national. Stayed in some rundown b and b near gladstone and went out to the cavern. Great weekend all round.

I remember the first game after the sewer was repaired under the Kop I went with my cousin Adam, I had a season ticket he never so we queued up from 10am, first in the queue he was until some scally went to push in at about half twleve, Adam butted him and all was in order, he went in first and I met him on the other side. Think it was versus QPR who were top of the league becuse we hadn't played any home games and was about 3 matches behind. Barnes scored a cracker took the ball from his own half if I remember correctly.

Paid cash plenty of times ? I used to like to get there early and go to the top of the kop and get a cup of tea and see the whole ground practically empty. Then I?d make my way down to my spot and watch it fill up from there.

Saturdays, 3 o?clock kick off, standing on the kop, jumpers for goal posts.

When I got my ST I used to turn up 10 minutes before kick off and push my way to the same spot and stand in front of the kid that had been there for 2 hours. :D

cash turnstiles = double clicking.

Those were the days

The little kids crouching down and going in with you. The gatemen must have sussed them even most of the times they got in.

It was great back then seeing the opposing players come out and inspect the pitch. They seemed to love to hear the abuse and have a laugh.
As did the ref and linesmen when they came out to check the nets.

Think that was Ron Yeats' testimonial. I was at that too (in the Kop). When it filled up there were loads of fights. One Celtic supporter got a flag out and got battered...he even had a suitcase with all his clobber in...which was opened and the contents thrown into the air, which at the time me and my 14 year old mate found highly amusing.
