WE'VE GOT PEOPLE POWER SAYS DAVID MOYES

Steve Bates

DAVID MOYES has outlined his Blue-print for the future - and insists Everton will always be the 'People's Club' on Merseyside.

"I stick by the People's Club statement I made when I joined, definitely," says boss Moyes.

"I said the people in the streets of Liverpool support Everton, and I stand by that.

"If that ruffled a few feathers at Liverpool , it wasn't meant to. It's what I believe. We could easily say there have been things said by Liverpool recently that have ruffled our feathers.

"We think of ourselves as one of the big clubs in this country

"Admittedly, we are behind other clubs at the moment but we are trying everything to get back. I certainly don't think I am an underclass to anybody as a manager. We are below where we want to be because we can't quite get to the top.

"But if you asked people at the start of the season where Everton would be now, it wouldn't be far away from our present position.

"If Everton can't go anywhere, who else can? Middlesbrough have Steve Gibson and Villa might come good, but is spending money still all the difference?

"Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho both won European trophies at Aberdeen and Porto without pots of money.

"So I have to believe you don't need money to succeed - even though it is getting more difficult. That's why I'm trying to do it like Alex and Jose did.

"We don't want to be like Leeds United where you spend and if it doesn't work you're in big trouble. I want more money but I will always know where the limits are.

"Our chairman Bill Kenwright has given every penny he's got and somehow found the money to buy Andy Johnson and J Lescott last summer. He is out looking for investors but no-one suitable has been found yet. Our main issue is that we desperately need a new stadium.

"We have very little corporate hospitality, fans still have to watch behind pillars and we don't have the moder trappings people require.

"It is imperative we change - and I think if Everton had a 50,000 stadium, then people would fill it whether we played in Liverpool city centre or 10 miles down the road."

Little club trying to me make the newspapers

MOYES STICKS TO HIS GUNS

By Simon Mullock

DAVID MOYES celebrates five years as Everton manager this week - and he's sticking by his claim that the Blues are the People's Club on Merseyside.

The former Preston boss caused shockwaves in the city when he arrived at Goodison on March 15, 2002 claiming that while Liverpool enjoyed worldwide fame, it was Everton who belonged to the Scousers.

Kop boss Rafa Benitez caused a similar storm after the recent Mersey derby when he laballed the Toffees "a small club", but Moyes has hit back saying: "I stick by the 'People's Club' statement I made when I joined.

"I said the people in the streets of Liverpool support Everton and I stick by that, even if it ruffled a few feathers at Anfield.

"Of course, we are still some way behind some other clubs, but we will be doing everything we can to get Everton back to where we should be."

Moyes thinks a new stadium is vital to Everton's development - even if it means moving to a site out of the city at Knowsley.

He added: "A shared stadium proposal with Liverpool was put forward and I think it is probably the one city in this country where that idea could have worked.

"But Liverpool decided to go their own way and now we must do the same if we want to progress

Saw this in the Guardian:

Merseyside humour: how come John Arne Riise didn't have any cuts or bruises to show for his well documented ordeal at the hands of keen golfer Craig Bellamy?

Because Bellamy was only using an Everton iron.

A what?

A small club.

They really do make me laugh, release the same quotes week after week and hope the Country will eventually believe them, all that actually happens though is 1/8th of Merseyside swallows it aswell as a bit of Wales, 7/8ths of Merseyside piss themselves laughing along with the rest of the country.

I know. One whole thread about you in the whole of the forum. Truly, we are obsessed.

Maybe we should write a song about how we don't care what you say.

Nah, that would just be stupid.

Wouldn't it?

Good to see the 'Small club' comment still rattling Moyes as well.

Still, excellent point about two current Premiership managers achieving success at their previous clubs without big money. Now if only I could remember the name of the fella who won two leagues and a UEFA Cup at Valencia when Madrid and Barca were spending vastly more...

Try filling the one you've got now, in your own district.

"Reclaim The Kop"

American Owners.

Spanish Manager.

"Keep Flags Scouse".

Constant complaining of "OOTers", seeing as you have more "OOTers" than about 98% of clubs.

100k people to celebrate the FA Cup victory, what happened to the other 900k that turned out for the Champions League?

Those mysterious cockney accents you hear on 606 and such phone ins "Next we have Bob and he's a Liverpool fan from Essex" "Yeahhh thanks Spoony, ain't been the game today but Rafas lost the plot...........".

i take issue with that f***ing bag head cuckoo moyes and his 'peoples club' tag line he's so fond of...

'we represent the man on the street, the grass roots. we haven't got as much money as the bigger boys and we're trying to get there through hard work and spirit, with a fan base and a board in glorious unison.'

firstly, you stole that f***ing line from the real man of the people Bill Shankly at a time when your nasty little club gloried in the nickname of the 'aristocrats' because you were one of the wealthiest clubs in the league with your 'school of science'. now you've got f*** all and you're trying to rebrand yourself, your s**** team, your s**** stadium, your s**** fans and your s**** chairman as the peoples club.

you were never aristocrats and you're not the peoples club. your manager's nothing but a thief without an original thought in his head.
