Liverpool have agreed that midfielder Danny Guthrie can join Championship side Southampton on an emergency loan for one month until March 31.

The player has yet to sign on the dotted line for the Saints. Back in January he was awarded with a new contract that will keep him at Anfield until June 2009.

A product of the Academy, Guthrie made his first team breakthrough this season and made his first start for the Reds in the Champions League tie away in Galatasaray.

Got a full 90 minutes tonight. Seemed to play really well at times. Looked tired at other times and made some silly passes. Did run all day long and looked like he had real quality He had a hot from about 40 yards that was saved well. Chris Kamara raved on about him.

Saw the first half and he was the best player on the park IMO.

That he was. And continued to be. His passing was too good for the movement ahead of him at times. Smart little player who really worked hard. Dare I say it. A Rafa type player. He'll definitely be back here.

Only thing is the competition in central midfield. He's got 4 top players ahead of him.

Hopefully he's got the ambition, commitment and wherewithall to fight it out for his place. If he really is good enough, he'll get a chance.

Best player on the pitch apart from maybe Cureton because of his two goals. First time ive properly seen Bale aswell and he's good going forward but hopeless defensively judging by that, loads and loads of time to improve though but the weirdo's already putting him in their crappy formations for next seasons team will probably be in for a shock.

Played well I thought. Not afraid to tackle and very good on the ball.

His assist was deflected towards the striker for the goal..if it wasn't deflected it would have been an average cross.

Anyway, I think he looked composed and perhaps has found his true level.
