valencia then roma in terms of performances. barca had a good 2nd half too, but the other 2 I remember as being real quality, especially valencia. with roma, they just looked so dangerous every time they came forward, great incisive passing. valencia, we just couldn;t get the soddin ball off 'em

I always thought the Barca team of the Champions League group stages in 01/02 were one of the best, the goal they scored with all the passes was easily one of the best I've ever seen at Anfield

Valencia or roma in the treble season.

The roma side in that season where rated by many as the best team in europe, capello had just built them up and in the same season won the league and the cup(i think).

Even Diao just stood there and admired the move.

Unfortunately, he just 'stood there' for most of his Anfield career. :(

Would agree. Valencia under Raffa.

Even when we played any of the others, we always looked as if we were in with a possible shout.

Valencia played us off the pitch and made it look so easy too. It may have been embarrasing but it was definately a masterclass.

Probably the game that prompted the board to go get Raffa for us.

Thinking back to those two games makes you realise that we still have some way to go before we can say we're as good as that. That team could control games and control the opposition so much more than we're able. We're getting there but until we can be that efficient we'll always be just behind the leaders

The current coach there is trying to emulate Rafa but he's finding even harder than Rafa is right now. It doesn't just happen automatically it takes so many things falling into place. We still have a few players here who treat the ball like it's their enemy

That was the thing about Rafa's Valencia team that struck me on the night; every single player in their side without exception was completely comfortable on the ball, and they looked like they could hurt you from anywhere on the pitch with a few quick passes.

As you say, we're a little way from that yet but a couple of players could change that and everything could click into place. For one thing, that Valencia side didn't have one player as good as Steven Gerrard, although the general level throughout the team was extremely high.

Barca - even though they had some schite players in their first team they played some brilliant football
