Think about it. Gerrard, Alonso, Sissoko and Mascherano.

There is no better group in that spot in the whole of football. I can't think of anyone who even comes close?

Arsenal? ManYoo? Chelsea?

Anyone abroad?

Gattuso Kaka Pirlo Seedorf is about the only one I can think of that comes close

Xavi, Ronaldinho, Messi, Deco, Iniesta, Edmilson, Giuly

Would those all count as CENTRE midfielders???

don't rate Edmilson

wouldn't class Ronaldinho, Messi or Guily as central midfielders

You could argue that Lampard, Ballack, Makelele and Essien are a match for that four.

Not on this site!

Mods that must be a banning offence ;)

Aye Ballack and Mascherano are quite similar...............that is Ballack has done about as much running in the entire season so far for Chelsea as Mascherano has done in his entire 17mins of play for West Ham ;)

Fletcher, O'Shea, Carrick, Scholes.

Almost as powerful as Ray Parlour, Steve Morrow, David Hillier John Jensen back in the George Graham glory days at the Library

Ballack's proven class. Mascherano's got it all to prove.

I'm stopping here. I'm not going down a "praising Chelsea" route. It already feels dirtier than the time I found that magazine in that hedge.

The only 4 that would match ours for me

Though Ballack has been dreadful this season.

Might be a bit early to be claiming Macherano as part of an elite midfield 4. 6 minutes in a West Ham shirt doesn't make him Roy Keane.

570minutes in an Argentinian shirt gives him a penchant for dog walking and insulting his own supporters though...

They are certainly an improvement on any four we have had in years but getting them to play togethor effectively and interchange them when needed still remains an uncertainty.

Momo - Is a one man wrecking crew that is all over the pace and winning everything. His distribution still needs to improve and his tackling can be a little clumsy at times but he will be a LEGEND

Stevie - One of the best in the business and still has time to improve

Xabi - A great passer and can control the tempo. His only weakness is he is a little slow on the ball at times.

Mascherano - Has looked good for Argentina but has a lot to prove. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him used as cover for our defence too.

If I had of put more smiley faces with a wink in there would that have helped take the edge of a comment that wasnt meant to be taken literally ;););););)

I think Milan's is classier or at least more proven than ours...

Having said that only kaka would come into our team.

And i absolutely love Gatusso.

I guess Chelsea would be a match for us...

Barca's not even close though.

Because he is a defensive midfielder and will get limited chances to play there while Stevie, Xabi and Momo are fit.

So why would we play him in defence? Has he ever played in defence? Has Rafa mentioned it? Or has he just said he's an alternative for Xabi?
