still 0-0 after 35 minutes.

LFC not doing much in the way of attacking, but we look ok at the back.

Zenden is doing ok.

scrappy match overall.

great save by the Man U keeper from Lindfield.

Dong just hit the post and Man U missed another sitter.

Some highly intelligent neanderthals in the crowd with a rendition of "you scouse ba**ards"

finishes 0-0, not a bad display from a hard working LFC team that never really looked like scoring.

we looked pretty sound at the back, solid in midfield, but lightweight up front.

Wes Brown, Alan Smith and Mikael Silvestre completed a much-needed 90 minutes for Manchester United's second string against Liverpool.

Darren Fletcher was also involved, as was China international Dong Fangzhou, who made his reserve team debut after finally having his work permit granted.

However, in front of Sir Alex Ferguson. the big names were not enough to overcome a Liverpool side that included Bolo Zenden, Dong hitting the post late on as United were held to their first 0-0 draw of the season.

Report from the official site:

Bolo Zenden made a successful return to action after injury when he played 45 minutes in the reserves goalless draw with Manchester United at Hyde United FC's Ewen Fields.

The Dutch international played his first game since he injured his knee against Manchester City back in November. Reds reserve team boss Gary Ablett also welcomed Jack Hobbs back to action when he replaced Zenden for the second half. The defender has missed most of the season so far with an ankle injury. Hobbs acquitted himself well in a holding midfield role and passed the ball well.

Ablett fielded a young team including four of the Youth Cup heroes who helped the Reds reach the quarter-finals last week in the form of Stephen Darby, Robbie Threlfall, Ryan Flynn and Craig Lindfield, while Jay Spearing and Michael Burns were on the bench.

Manchester United fielded a strong line-up including Alan Smith, Darren Fletcher, Mikael Silvestre, Wes Brown and Chinese international Dong.

Ablett will take a lot of positives from the game as his young team more than matched their more experienced United counter parts and with a little more luck might have taken all three points. In truth the game was hardly a classic but Liverpool competed very well.

In a fairly low key first half Liverpool twice came close to breaking the deadlock. On 40 minutes Lindfield was unfortunate to see his superb curled drive from the left side of the penalty area superbly saved by Tom Heaton. Then Moroccan Nabil El Zhar hit a rasping drive just over the bar.

Liverpool were excellent at the back and Godwin Antwi and Miki Roque were their usual solid as a rock selves. Indeed Roque made one fantastic block tackle to deny Fletcher.

In the second half Liverpool continued to press and Lindfield again was unlucky when he saw his effort from a tight angle pushed onto the post by substitute keeper Lee Crockett.

United almost won the game five minutes from time when Jamie Mullan failed to hit the target after a good cross from Smith then Dong hit the post from close range. Then in stoppage time Danny Guthrie went close for Liverpool after a late tackle denied him a clear run through on goal.

Manchester United Reserves: Heaton (Crockett 45), Lee, Lea, Fletcher (Burns 45), Silvestre, Brown, Mullan, Eagles, Smith, Dong, Evans (Barnes 60).

Liverpool Reserves: Martin, Darby, Threlfall, Roque, Antwi, Peltier, Flynn, Zenden (Hobbs 45), Lindfield, El Zhar (Burns 88), Guthrie. Subs not used: Roberts, Spearing.

Referee: C Pawson

Liverpoolfc.tv Man of the Match: Robbie Threlfall. Always gives his all and made some fine tackles.

Watched the last 25 mins on MUTV.

Very hard working young side. El Zhar covered more ground than Momo does.... United were piss poor and we should have done them.

the lad Antwi looks like he might have the potential to get to the next level. he is huge, not bad in the air and quick on his feet.

Paddy Crerand was pretty impressed by his play, if his opinion is worth anything.

It must have been cold at the ground because Crerand looked like he was wearing 3 coats when they showed him shivering at half time.

good to see that Jack Hobbs is back as well after his injury! He's hardly played this season has he? Shame really, he seemed to be doing quite nicely last season, but has ended up missing months of this one.

He was a big Dong, he was also a fast Dong, however his Dong communication skills were lacking.

heaven knows what will happen when he plays alongside Gary Neville.

He took a real kicking in the pre-season matches. Let's hope he can bounce back.

An ugly dick playing with a big dong. Its like a Viz flashback. Maybe they can get Billy the Fish to start in goal. That or Tim Howard to come back swearing his head off at Taggart via Tourettes and Ashley Cole running the wing with a mobile phone going off every five minutes.
