Guest Kev Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 Partly on the back of the RTK thread, but I wanted this to concentrate on scarves. There is deffo a lack of scarves on the Kop, during YNWA there are more scarves held aloft around the ground than in the Kop. I stopped taking a scarf to the match about 25 years ago, and I can't really remember if I've taken one to a 'special' match. Do scarves add to the overall atmosphere ?Would you be prepared to wear a scarf again ? Opinions on scarves and wearing one please. Obviously I can't wear one at home, and I don't wear one at away games, but I do take my flag when I can. i don't think I'll ever wear a scarf again, unless it comes back into fashion.
Spike Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 used to take one all the time when I just went to the game (bloody daytripper). If I forgot to take one I'd buy another. Now I go to the pub more and more before and after the match and sometimes out on the lash either in liverpool or with my mates so I no longer take one.
allez les rouges Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 there a big yes in my bookd. I to have stop taking them, but with the De de, der der der chant, and YNWA i feel like i a missing out. i take mine all the time now.

Interesting point, never looked at it that way. A scarf would get in the way if planning a night out after the game. Which is what a lot of people do these days.
Guest Kev Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 only if worn tied around the left wrist. you want an 'Up Liverpool' badge sewn onto your denim jacket don't you

I can't really remember the last time I took one. I always used to take one to Euro aways to swap with a local, but I haven't done that for a while either
Rich Gobey Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 you want an 'Up Liverpool' badge sewn onto your denim jacket don't you and 'liverpool - ace of clubs' tin badge
ifanew Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 Being mostly a day tripper I take a scarf with me, was a big help against Bolton as it was bloody cold!
richt71 Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 and 'liverpool - ace of clubs' tin badge Can we also campaign for 'LFC' wristbands as modelled by many in the 80's and our own JAR these days!
Gray - YPC Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 Only take it for special occasions these days. Took it to Istanbul, the Chelsea semi home leg, and that's about all I can remember!
aka Dus Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 I only wear one if it's half Celtic/half LFC or half Ireland/half LFC.
Murphman Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 I had a 6" LFC plaque stuck on the front of my Lambretta GT200. Beat that!!
Bao Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 and 'liverpool - ace of clubs' tin badge ... and a Union Jack sew-on with Liverpool FC across it
diggy Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 I am almost identical - I used to always take one when I day-tripped. I can't really remember the last time I took one. I always used to take one to Euro aways to swap with a local, but I haven't done that for a while either If ever there was a case to increase the day tripper allocation and decrease season tickets this is it. Do you think the RTK people will go for this? I'll make banner "Daytrippers=Scarves=RTK"
Guest MarkN Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 Always had a scarf to the game up until Hillsborough. The one I took to Sheffield I tied onto the KOP goal when the ground was open after the event and have never replaced it. Probably a personal thing, but I find that it is just something that whenever I see the scarves at the match, or any match for that matter it brings the events of that day and those who lost their lives to the forefront of my mind (not that I need reminding before any one else says it!) But to comment on the actual question, and in spite of what I have just written, there is something special about Anfield full stop, but I believe a part of that is the cacophony of colour, (scarves, flags, banners, clothes etc.) that accompanies the build up to every match. I would say then that irrespective of whether it be scarves or flags etc. maybe many of us have forgotten the importance of "colours" at Liverpool and turn up to often in our dull "old man" grey coats. (Hands up here, getting old and need to keep warm). So, certainly for future matches I will try and return to the habits of my youth and make sure my colours are well displayed at the match, but as for scarves, I hope you will all forgive me keeping that as a little In Memorium for myself. Sorry if this is a bit of a heavy post for what I guess was intended to be a light hearted thread, but it just struck a bit of a chord with me. Happy New Year to all.
cymrococh Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 Can we also campaign for 'LFC' wristbands as modelled by many in the 80's and our own JAR these days! I still wear one of them for football.
Tones Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 Im all for scarves. And replica tops too. I think it can motivate the team. How great must it be to run out at Anfield with YNWA playing, the crowd singing and a sea of red around the ground. Just doesnt happen enough though.
Billy Dane Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 I've got one of the red justice scarves which I take to every game. I took my son in the main stand for the Watford game (I'm usually on the Kop) and I was surprised at how few scarves there were in the Kop for YNWA etc. Why have a scarf and only take it for the big games? Isn't that a bit like "I only sing at the big games?"
JohnnyH Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 You'll never walk alone, and the ground full of colour with scarves held high is almost spiritual. It's fantastic to be a part of and around the world on television it is one of the main contributing factors of why the club is held in such high reagard. I have no idea of how to post pictures but when I see a pic of the Kop in full colour it makes me proud. Also, just before the game is about to kick off, look at the opposing teams players they all cast 3 or 4 glimpses over at the Kop before kick off. Everyone loves it. Even Gary Neville.....
johngibo YPC Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 Only take it for special occasions these days. Took it to Istanbul, the Chelsea semi home leg, and that's about all I can remember! Thats cos of all the hooligans you hang out with!I try and take one when i'm on the Kop. Not much point at the top of the Upper Cenny!Aways sometimes as well depending on where it is
oakie bob Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 i havent took a scarf since the 80's when i used to tie it around my left wrist, could do what newcastle did who gave out free scarves at a match
Poolfrog Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 Can we also campaign for 'LFC' wristbands as modelled by many in the 80's and our own JAR these days! You can actually buy Liverpool wristbands from street traders in Thailand - they sell them for just about every club, about 10p each. Best laugh we had when I was there with a bunch of mates (including a scum fan) was when the bloke selling them asked me which team I supported. When I said Liverpool, quick as a flash he showed me a wristband declaring "f*** Man Utd". Absolute quality.
jon_hall Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 i havent took a scarf since the 80's when i used to tie it around my left wrist, could do what newcastle did who gave out free scarves at a match f*** off, they're no marks and had to be shown what to f***ing do.
