...in all honesty he's turned out ot be an injury-prone flop.

Signing for Newcastle is tantamount to pressing your buzzer and saying 'I'll take the money, and leave the career please Bob'. He set their winner up yesterday, but has generally looked total garbage - I've even seen him subbed a few times when not injured, which for a player of his ability at a club in the bottom four is pretty awful.

I'm just glad it's one of those 'wish we would have signed' players I need wish for no more.

He's lost loads of pace and seems more intent on winning free kicks than actually doing anything else. Mourinho might be a c*** but I think its fair to say he knew what he was doing when getting rid of him.

Dont think we were ever in for him either, Bascombe certainly doesnt think so anyway.

those two are linked though I think ;)

Wright Phillips is going the same way under Maurenho. He seems have forgotten how to play football and spends (the little) time he plays whinging at the ref and diving. Very similar to Duff's last season there.

The move to Chelsea ruined him even though it was great for his back balance. Mourinho's obsession with playing as many central midfielders as possible in midfield and his demands that any wide players of his do more tracking back and defending than attacking have totally sucked the life out of Duff's game. Injuries haven't helped with his sharpness either.

He's an old fashioned winger. You either play him out wide and give him licence to run at people and get in crosses or you don't bother

Overrated due to being Irish, more like

From 2000 to 2004 he was playing great football. Irish or not.

Last 2 years have been more or less write offs though.

Over-rated? Hardly. He never played as well as he can for Chelsea due to the way that team is set up.When he played internationals, the players would be looking to get the ball to him whenever possible and let him do his thing.Pacy, tricky , hard to dispossess, rarely wasted a ball... he wasn't overrated but now the shoulder injury has pretty much ruined him.I can understand why he wouldn't be the same player because he was being constantly fouled and taken out of it by opposition who couldn't deal with him - his injury has taken alot of his confidence.

I reckon throwing yourself to the ground fifty times every match would take it out of you all right, the body just can't take that sort of chronic punishment. And the amount of muscles used in making that moany face all the time must have contributed to the fatigue.
