if we win it, we could get Madrid or Barcelona, a scenario made more likely if Arsenal and Man U finish second in their groups

Possibly, but getting a win tonight to try to build some momentum and gain confidence is surely more important, if we're going to win the CL then we have to beat the bigger teams sometimes, anyway I'd fancy our chances against Madrid.

Aye, was wondering that meself.

Also, last year we won it, and struggled playing away from home first! Year before, we coped well playing at home first in two knockout stages.

And this year Real Madrid are a far stronger and better organised side than they where last year.

Thing is tho, I do want us to win the group, just cos it'd give us a bit of a boost at a time when the team are struggling. But if we didn't win it, it's not such a bad thing.

Win the group, second leg at home, always better to know what you need to do to qualify at home.

I think we'd stand a good chance of beating Madrid over two legs. Not sure about battering them though :D

Barcelona could be a different proposition, although they do have a few long term injuries to key players at the minute.

Anyway, let's win our group, see who we get next, have a good crack at beating them and if it's off to Spain have a fantastic Euro away jolly ;)

Probable group winners

Us, Valencia, Milan, Bayern, Mancs, Porto, Chelsea, Lyon

Probable second places

PSV, Barca, Real, Inter, Roma, Celtic, Arsenal, AEK

Arsenals group is hard to predict. But looking at it I think finishing top is still preferable to finishing second. Just about

not fussed. there aren't, or at least shouldn't, be any really easy games in the knockout stage anyway.

Exactly my thoughts. though AEK would have to be regarded as the easiest.

Interesting that. All the games against the likely first placed teams would be extremely tough, but I wouldn't see us as underdogs in any of those potential ties.

If we top our group there is a real danger we face the two big spanish biys, whom would surelky start the tie as favourites. The flip side is the possibility of drawing an AEK or Celtic and being storng favourites to progress.

On balance it has to be better to win the group for a range of reasons.

If we want to win #6 we have to beat whoever we come across. I think its actually important to come up againts one of the fav's so that we can beat them and instil some beleif into the team that we could win this again.

If we draw with PSV tonight and we match their final result does it come down to goal difference or the matches played against each other?

Matches played against each other. Thats how Celtic are through.

Another advantage of topping the group is having the second leg at Anfield.

thats the big reason for winning it.

we could be in dire straits after the away leg, but you never quite know what we are capable of acheiving in front of a marauding Kop!

Didn't the Mancs beat then 3-2?

Don't understand how Celtic are through?

Away goals??

since we will have drawn both games against PSV, wouldn't it then come down to goall difference?

From the looks of it it'll be down to away goals, so a score draw and PSV will go ahead of us.

Wouldn't mind a trip to Madrid or Barca. Not for the football mind more the tapas bar crawl to oblivion.

call me a masochist if you will, but i have a feeling its going to be barca.

(well, a feeling and a fervent hope - hence the masochist bit - i moved to barca two weeks ago, so my first european tie at the nou camp would be some night!)
