Two months now since his operation after which it was said he would be out for 6 weeks or so, anyone got any news or sightings of him at Melwood?

We all know one person who should have seen him at Melwood, but he doesn't post on this site.

I heard he is doing light training and will be playing again in 2 weeks, but am not sure if that means playing with kids or ready for 1st team.

Kewell requires second operation

Liverpool say winger Harry Kewell will have a second operation on the foot injury he suffered in the World Cup.

Kewell, 27, has not played since June when he scored in Australia's 2-2 draw with Croatia in the World Cup finals.

A Liverpool spokesman told the club's website: "A primary procedure to drain the infection was performed in July but it will require further surgery.

"Only after that will we have an accurate idea on the length of his rehabilitation period."

Kewell returned to Sydney earlier this month for treatment on the injury which has been diagnosed as septic arthritis, a bacterial infection in the joints of his left foot.

After helping Australia reach the last 16 of the World Cup, Kewell was unable to play in their second round defeat to eventual World Champions Italy.

He also aggravated his groin problem in last season's FA Cup final against West Ham and the then Socceroos coach, Guus Hiddink, admitted Kewell was not fully fit for the group stages of the World Cup.

It pisses me off! Someone as injury prone as Kewell should have given the WC a miss. He missed good parts of last season (including coming off in another final)and was never really fully fit. Then he shows up in Germany and typically he's injured for the next 4 months+. It must be frustrating as feck cutting the $50k per week cheque to him.

Big toe was infected and is being reconfigured (?). Ankle (not sure if it achilles or not) tendon being scraped (cleaned up). Hip arthroscopy next week to try to fix groin problems.

Time out is yet to be determined as far as i am aware.

Christ. :( Well at least at 27 he's still got a good chance of getting over these - assuming this is now the extent of his injuries - and getting fit again.

28 now :bleh:

:hmm:

Pretty harsh mate. it was the first time in 40 years australia had qualified and they might never do it again. What did you expect him to do? what would you have done, with the chance to play at a wc for your country?

No it isn't! We have paid Kewell 40k-50k per week for 3 seasons and he has performed well below his level at Leeds Utd. Towards the end of last season he somewhat started to look like he was regaining his form. He gets an injury in the Cup Final which once again causes him to leave the field. Instead of resting up this summer and getting his body back in shape he goes to the WC not really fit and gets another injury. Now he is once again out for 7 months.

Put yourself in the club's and namagers shoes and you might think differently. He was given the chance to ressurect his Liverpool career and now he is out long term again. I don't give a feck if Australia got to their first world cup in 40 years but I do care that we continue to pay big money for an injury prone player who has yet to fulfill his promise.

I've just watched the first series West Wing and there is a latin phrase they use

Post Hoc, Ergo Propter Hoc"

It means "If after, then therefore, because." and implies that one thing follows because of another and in the West Wing President Bartlett says it is rarely if ever true.

The same applies to Kewell, it isn't playing in a World Cup that has put him out for seven months it's the catalogue of injuries that he's having surgery on now that is putting him out for seven months. If he'd rested during the summer he probably would have got fit for the start of the season, played a few times, aggravated something again and we'd be back at square one. I reckon the World Cup has done us a favour, now it appears all of Harry's injuries have been spotted and they are all getting fixed. There is a chance that next season we get a 28yr old winger to rip defences apart like we had when we signed him. It's also possible that he wil never be the same player again. Either way we are better off than having the half player we have had for 3 years.

Oh well that solves it all. I'm sure Rick Parry as he writes that cheque every week thinks " Well if there's a Latin phrase used on West Wing to describe Harry's problems then everything will be OK." :D:wacko:

Sorry mate i think thats complete and utter b******s. If you can't understand a player desperately wanting to play for his country at a world cup...then i thinks theres something wrong. Rafa also seemed to understand the situation.

I understand his wanting to play but

1. He was injured in the last game of the season 5 weeks before the WC started.

2. He has been complaining about having on-going injuries himself and stated many times he wasn't 100% fit.

There are many players who pulled out of the World Cup despite wanting desperately to play.

I'm not describing the problem I'm describing your flawed logic

You clearly dont if you follow it with but anything. Australia finally got to the world cup final in 40 years of trying. Twice already he's suffered heartbreak as they lost a playoff to the World Cup to Iran and Uruguay respectively. He wanted to play in the World Cup more than anything in the whole world. Yes, he is a Liverpool player, yes I want him fit for us but theres only a slim chance that Australia will get there again AND he will be fit enough to play.

Sometimes country will come before club and to Kewell this was that occasion, now he's been to the World Cup I'd expect nothing less that 100% effort to get fit for Liverpool.

Nothing to do with club v country more with wanting to play when you aren't fully fit and chancing aggravating the current injury or favouring it and picking up another injury. He himself had said several times in the past he was not playing well because he wasn't 100% and was carrying an injury. I am pretty sure his leaving several finals with us was down to him not being 100% fit for the game.

Incidentally, I was under the impression all injured player's wages are recouped through insurance. So given Harry's been injured so much we've probably been paying him 2/3rds of his weekly wage over the course of the contract.

I think (to a certain extent) Kewell and Owen are both injury-prone because of our attitude towards their injuries in the past. So maybe we need to be more apologetic than accusatory.

Don't scare me. If Kewell's foot *does* indeed look like that, I'd say his career is over.

Here's an update on his latest round of *surgeries* (emphasis on the plural):

Liverpool's Kewell on the mend after Sydney surgery

AFP

September 24, 2006

SYDNEY (AFP) - Injured Liverpool midfielder Harry Kewell has said his football future was looking rosy after the first of a couple operations.

The sidelined Australian international said Sunday he was finding it virtually impossible to walk from his bed to the shower in his family home here without pain, but shortly he will be ready to play again.

Kewell spent his 28th birthday Friday in a recovery ward after undergoing toe and ankle surgery Thursday in Sydney.

He is also expected to have a groin operation in Melbourne next week.

"No question - I'll come back stronger, quicker and fitter," Kewell told Sydney's Sun-Herald newspaper.

"I've been out for a long time and I'm hungry to come back into it - that's what I'm really looking forward to."

Kewell has not played since June 22 when he helped Australia reach the second round of the World Cup in Germany with a late equalising goal in the Socceroos' 2-2 draw with Croatia.

Kewell said he will consult a specialist Monday after surgery to strip the bone in the big toe on his left foot, which he says was "all smashed up". The toe had been attacked by septic arthritis, a bacterial infection.

He said a surgeon also scraped a tendon in his right ankle to ease inflammation.

Kewell said he will have a hip arthroscopy this week to ease pain in his troublesome groin.

"I can walk around now but I have to be very, very careful," he said. "It's going to be a couple of weeks before I can do anything.

"I'm in a bit of pain now but expect to be fine in a couple of days."

Kewell said he was unsure when he would return to the pitch, but expects to spend at least two more weeks in Australia.

He said his English club Liverpool has been supportive while he recovers from his injuries.

"We've discussed everything since I've been out here," he said. "They know exactly what I'm doing and that's how we like it, we like to keep everything open.

"They've been fantastic through the whole thing as well."

Offal with the usual seasonal Kewell 'i'll be back better than ever' romario:

It's like them vids of Bin laden that keep cropping up

:D

Everytime I read one of those Harry interviews I always have a picture of him in my head jumping up and down trying to get in front of a camera while shouting "remember me?...I'm still here....I'n fecking Harry Kewell...I'm a footballer remember?"

Posted

People are happy to give it to Harry and i understand that. His body has let him down badly but i know he would prefer to be out there tearing up defences like we all know he can.

If these operations do not work his career is stuffed and we have no chance of

1) getting the World class player we should have. He has just turned 28 FFS.

2) Getting any money for him.

As a LFC supporter i would be cheering him on.

COME ON HARRY. GET IT F****** SORTED AND KICK SOME a***!!!
