I really hated that contrived over the top celebration to scoring his penalty in the shoot-out. Since Pearce did it (for understandable reasons) in Euro '96 and was held up as a national hero, a number of g*******s have done it. Gazza did it in the next shootout in Euro '96 and looked liek a t***. When Sheringham did it, all I could think was what does this say to the rest of your teammates? - 'I don't care about you or the team as at least I have scored MY peno'.

Contrived stupid attention seeking crap. Look at Hamann - one fist thump to the fans, then back to the team. Riise - two hands in the air and a look of total relief after the Instanbul miss. Gerrard - turns around and jogs (hobbles) back to the halfway line, knowing that as Captain histronics are not suitable at that point. Sheringham - acts like he's just entered the ring for the Royal Rumble and runs around pumping his fist like a very annoying American Footballer on steriods who's just short of shouting "Show me the money!". Delighted the idiot was on the loosing side.

Sheringham = ceremonial striker = lost the game for West Ham

I would never sl@g any players reaction , whatever that maybe, after scoring or missing in such a huge shoot out.

I would probably celebrate like winnin the Cup in that situation just because it absolves me of a lifetime of stigma.

Personally, I thought Sheringham was trying to get the West Ham fans fired up because they'd missed their first, were still one down as Sami missed one of ours and they were in an equal position again.

Didn't see it as him trying for any personal glory.

Looks like some of the love and affection for West Ham is wearing off with a few people.

I saw absolutely nothing wrong with what he did, he scored after we had missed and he was just trying to get some reaction from the West Ham fans as they had gone pretty quiet during extra time, plus, the penalties were at their end and they should have been making all kinds of noise to put us off.

probably his lasty meaningful contribution in a big game as well.

He was obviously caveated by the 'played for us' bit :banghead:

i was working on Talbot Road when Hillsborough happened......I went to Old Trafford to pick some tickets up at there box office for a customer of the company (Utd were playing that night)...They had started a book of condolence......So I decided to sign it for obv reasons......Anyway, Sir Matt was stood to the left after signing it immediatley before me...Obv i did a double take and he said "alright son? you going to the game tonight?)...I replied by telling him that I was a LIverpool fan who had been at Hillsborough and had lost mates..he grabbed my arm, lent towards me and said

"When I tell you that I know how you fell, you believe me dont you? take care son"

Sheringham is a c***

Here's my story of Sheringham actually being a c***. We used to have our season tickets in row 4 of the Paddock. Too low down to get a decent overview of the game, you at least had the benefit of a) having a season ticket. b) It enabled you to get close to the players on that side of the pitch and c) I got some cracking photographs during that time. Anyway, the 2-2 V United when Irwin got sent off and we thought we'd cost them the league. Remember it? Well towards the end, Sheringham as a sub was warming up in front of us and proceeded to stand right in our way. We were just about high enough for it not to bother us but on the front row there is where the disabled fans sit and he was definitely obscuring their view. Any other player who this had been pointed out to ran up and down thereby minimising the time they spent in front of any individual section. Sheringham however delighted in standing stock-still for at least two minutes even when the carers of some of the disabled had politely asked him to show some consideration. To be fair, he was responding to some more abusive shouts but the arrogant look on his face when he sneered at us in the crowd made him look a right knob-head and caused some on the front two rows to miss some good end-of-game action. The end result was that everyone in that section just increased their hatred towards him for being a tosser. Tosser.

Did you feel the same way about Smicer's celebration in Istanbul?

When he came on I spent the whole game shouting "f*** off Manc c***" at him, nobody around me really seemed to understand why.

I had a great time doing it,though.

Got a lot of time for Sheringham, even though he played for the Mancs.

His missus supports Liverpool and he's a closet red as well.
