  1. Ignoring Ayre's notes on the last set of accounts then ? We made an enormous profit on transfer activity last Summer.
  2. Correct, we're still working through the £50M profit from the last 12 months transfer dealings.
  3. Has to be allowed to play for someone. He's an Atleti player until his registration changes, regardless of any financial agreement between clubs. Assuming the ban stays, it's basically an agreement, with whatever qualifiers, that they will take him in January.
  4. He doesn't say not capable with situation 2 though. He says not as confident, as in our chances would be reduced, although there is no expression as to what degree. Could still think we are capable.
  5. If they can't register him, they can't loan him I wouldn't have thought. He'll just stay registered with AM, til Barca are able to register him I guess, bit like the Gazza to Lazio deal in 1990.

In the club's accounts, all transfer fees are spread initially over the length of contract. If they sign another in a couple of years, the remainder is spread over that contract, if they get sold the remaining amount is effectively subtracted from the fee received. In short, looking at the totals from any one window tells you pretty much nothing to be honest. The relevant figures are the annual amortisation of fees, the book worth of a sold player, and the amount received when a player is sold. The gross/nett spend amounts for each window, only really show a trend, not the full picture. For example, despite spending more than we received in the last 2 windows, we generated a huge profit on transfer activity, whilst carrying a much larger amount forward than normal.
  7. Yeah I'm the same, think he was quoted on here as calling something. He lasted about a week on my timeline I think, don't care how ITK he is, his drivel's not worth it.
  8. Completely, great read that from Gibo, agree with every word. Especially when you have an inexperienced, no-name manager, that kind of influence can make a difference.
  9. And to test it's calculator ?

No doubt about it, but to what end ? Distancing the rest from sacking BR, or just setting Gordon up as the fall guy, a way to keep their man BR, under the guidance of a new 'operational model'.
  13. My interpretation of that, is he's just being respectful, as the club's he'd consider haven't yet parted with their current manager, and he doesn't want to tout publically for another man's job. Of course that could be just wishful thinking, but the 'I'm taking a break', followed by 'Project too good to turn down', has been used before I think. Could be City, Munich, or Arsenal as much as us obviously, but still. One of those two things needs changing completely, if not both. I don't know about the permanence of mediocrity, football can change very fast, but next season would likely start with less optimism than any for a long time.
  14. And the stand could be paid for before it's even built.

If they are in it for the cash, they can make plenty keeping us in or around where we are now. Stand built and paid for with a couple of big names sold, and in a year or two we look in excellent shape financially, with huge revenue streams and little debt. They should double their money easily. Really hope that's not their plan, and instead they plan to use the revenue from the new stand to start attracting better players, and retaining the ones we have. Not at all convinced just at the moment though. Even the fees we shelled out last Summer, with the ages of the players, and a couple of years worth of depreciation, they should all have decent resale value. Sobering thought at best. Stick with the manager and transfer policy this Summer, and I think you can say their plan is clear.

It only falls apart if profit's aren't the strategy. Not that I would suggest for one minute, that paying for the stadium out of transfer dealings is their plan, but selling Sterling and Coutinho over the next 12 months, given their low book value a la Suarez, covers the lot. Increasing revenues cover the amortisation of recent transfer fees, leading to accounting profits like the last 2 windows (£50m+) . Being outside the CL will reduce income , so we'll see how much we spend this Summer, though the nett spend of the window, taken in isolation, is largely irrelevant.
  17. Aye, no excuses for that today, but agree would like to have seen BR do better, enjoyed last season's football (or the season before last, as it now is). Enjoy your hols mate.
  18. Seems the most obvious explanation. Not unusual for players at a club to have an end of season holiday, whether it's considered deserved or not.
  19. If we go in to this Summer, with this manager, this squad, and the apparent wage principles of this ownership, then next season could well make this season look like Roy's Utopia. The squad is what it is, the owners presumably are unlikely to budge too much on philosophy (although there is cash to spend if the Stadium is being financed outside of running costs), so we desperately need a manager who can pull rabbits out of hats in the transfer market. Someone players want to play for, and would have a little gamble on an exciting project at a (still, for now) important European club.
  20. Think he actually said £100M

Thoroughly predictable, only a franchise system could put a real cap on owner investment/spending. Can't see FSG being too interested long term without FFP, but you never know.
  22. That's amazing Barnsey lad, can't buy memories like that. All sounds incredible, but the moment your eldest finds out he's going, I bet he's not forgetting that in a hurry, magic.
