    FSG Watch...

Hardly ever 100% fit, and when he is fit, he's rarely looked much better than average. Definitely seemed to benefit from favouritism vs Markovic.
  2. More likely, especially in the case of Allen, but both would be more suited to Klopp's style I think. There's often a change in fortunes for some players with a new manager, both good and bad, those 2 are on the 'not beyond the realms of possibility' list.
  3. Assuming he doesn't just curl up into a ball, there's half a chance, mad as it sounds, that Joe Allen might start looking like he belongs. The one thing he does well is press high, although it's unlikely to be enough, granted. I bet he'd love Markovic back too.
  4. Not a chance in hell they'd have sacked him today, if the new man wasn't in the bag. This has been in play a couple of weeks, and BR's last couple of pressers are proof enough of that I think. He'll have got wind on the grapevine that meetings were taking place, and other avenues being actively pursued, whilst most likely getting very little time from Ayre/FSG.

  7. I should leave this Kite, because I don't think you're grasping the economics of FSG's tenure. It's all there in the accounts, with supplementary information from other teams affairs for cross reference. I do agree the manager isn't getting the best out of the players, but then I really don't think much of the players he's being given to use either. I haven't said wages have gone down by the way, I've said they've gone down in real terms, which they have. They are down as a percentage of revenue, and also against the spending of our rivals. Of course they haven't literally gone down, but income is going up exponentially, and wages are lagging behind. It's an easy save for the owners. Further, have a good look at the accounts, and in particular the notes that FSG have been adding, in relation to transfer activity. Accounts now run to May 31st, and are published approx March 1st the following year. This means that the following financial year's transfer business is already complete, and so they are noting the bottom line figures for this. The last set of accounts advised of a circa £50M profit on transfer activity, for the year to May 2015. These lads are smart with their numbers, but without a year of no purchases, or a massive influx of cash at some point, they will have to keep selling one big name each year. I do agree that getting rid of experienced players is something BR happily goes along with by the way, there's less chance of a younger, eager to succeed player, seeing through his lack of experience.

  9. Sorry Kite but it is, and it's why we've got a squad of Lallana's, Allen's and Ings. Wages in this league have gone through the roof, and the top 4 or so are increasing their wage bill accordingly, to attract the sort of established leaders that our squad is now lacking. All the nouse has been allowed to leave, and been replaced by cheaper players of potential, I don't see how that can be questioned really. Just because that type of player now commands the kind of salary that an Alonso or Hyppia might have commanded 6 or 7 years ago, doesn't mean we are paying out top wages. Lads like Coutinho, Sturridge, Henderson have been getting contract extensions and raises, but when you look at the impact of an extension on a players amortisation, these generally pay for themselves in the books, on an annual basis at least. The money still needs paying at some point, but FSG keep moving the pieces around smartly.
  10. I haven't said I disagree with their financial activity as such, just pointing out that people need to not be hoodwinked into thinking they are splashing cash around. The finances of the club have never been in such a good state I don't think, but the reality is, that also leaves us with a lot of mediocre footballers. Mediocre is unfair actually, but still, we need much better in terms of proven quality, to mix with some of the 'projects'. Someone pointed to the club's accounts as proof of an increasing wage bill. I just pointed out that in reality it shows the opposite in terms of spending on wages, as our ratio of revenue/wages is decreasing (again prudent financially, but at the potential cost of success). Players who command the ever increasing levels of salary are mostly being moved on, and players happy to start on a tier or two below are coming in. We need a mix.
  11. ranting? No idea what you are on about here, and I doubt very much they were sold against anyone's will. Simply put, headline transfer fee's help to pull the wool over a lot of people's eyes, because they can't be arsed (and rightly so really) to read the accounts, and understand that FSG are actually, in real terms, spending less than Moores did. Like I say, it depends what you want, and maybe it's just a temporary solution to fund the stadium development, but don't think they are investing in the team, they're not.
  12. Very. The 'received no assurances' quote, if true, explains his recent defeatist demeanour. (A demeanour he's trying, and failing to cover up.)
  13. No, it's not silly, it's the reality. Our approach to finances has been sensible, from a financial security/ bean counter perspective. It has also, however, been at odds with that of our rivals. People need to decide what they want, a well run club with cash in the bank, a club spending money it doesn't have, or never will have, or something in between. Something in between requires a little bit more of a gamble, but not necessarily anything as dangerous as the f***wit economics operated by H&G. FSG have made their position very clear, with the type of signings, the timing of sales, and the timing of contract renewals. Anyone pointing to our increasing wage bill, or gross purchase prices, as an indication of their willingness to spend, is being extremely naive, sorry.
  14. That's like comparing transfer fees many years apart. Our wage bill, as a percentage of revenue, has dropped considerably. Whilst that's entirely sensible, economically, it doesn't fall in line with our rivals, we are to all intents and purposes, paying less. I suggest you look at the accounts more closely mate. The ones published under FSG, show a clear reduction in wages as a percentage of revenue (the only relevant measure, by any standards). They also show a nice profit on transfer activity, regardless of any headline figures you see bandied around.
  15. Is that definite ? There was some nonsense about his pic with Lampard being in NYC, but it was actually in Vancouver where he's been living since June.
  16. Inevitable now isn't it ? Just details.
  17. Just 2 pages earlier.
  18. It's a sign, Harry Redknapp's coming. Well yeah, I hear you on that. That's the entire Internet though, the Radio and TV news later that day, and the papers the day after. The thing about twitter though, if you use it right, is you can cut yourself off from all the negative, bigoted s***e. A bit insular if you look at it that way, but you choose what you see. If you see s***, you've chosen badly.
  19. I think you've just never used it the way it's meant to be used to be honest. If all you do, is follow reputable, verifiable accounts, then you have everything that is happening in the World, at your finger tips as it happens. I have never even come across all this 'look at me' garbage, except when people post it on here.
  20. I think there must be two twitters. Maybe I'm using it wrongly, but I just read stuff from people I follow, and I only follow people I've heard of. It's by far the best way to get news/sport info. Anything and everything that happens in the world, breaks on twitter before it's on the TV or radio.
  21. In all honesty, this is as wrong as DJS' apparent excessive faith in all it has to offer.
  22. If the posts are from an unverifiable source, twitter or otherwise, then he'd be right. For what it's worth, I use twitter, but seemingly not in the way some others do. I don't read, other than on here, anything other than 'straight from the horses mouth' quotes. I don't follow people unless I know them, or have heard of them. That rule seems to help avoid all the gossip and garbage.
  23. I think most will be capable of that to be fair.
  24. Is it from the same source as the 2 wrong one's you posted in midweek, or a more believable one ?
