This is a good point but would he have had as much time to implement his ideas if CL qualification had been one of the primary objectives of the club back then? Andy Gray and Sky are right though; the game has changed forever. From the tempo of the average game to the mentality of the average player/director/fan, the landscape has changed irrevocably and not for the better either.

Although I'm no great fan of Scottish footballers (well, modern ones anyway ), this lad has really caught my eye when I've seen him play. A full back who, despite wanting to get forward at every opportunity, is actually a very good defender as well. Against Barca in the CL the other night, he was fantastic, snuffing out Henry on more than one occaision. Definitely one to keep an eye on IMO, wouldn't be surprised to see one or more of the big boys sniffing around at the end of the season. He's only 23, got his whole career ahead of him and unlike the vast majority of his British defensive contemporaries, he looks comfortable as hell on the ball. However my knowledge of Scottish football could hardly be described as indepth so does anyone know any more about this lad?

I was at that game at the Racecourse, best goal I've ever seen live. I agree with the original post, Southall was okay as well as Ratcliffe plus the latter very kindly signed an old Blue shirt for my brother in law for our birthday pressie for him not so long back so extra marks for that.

Kenwright can't be hated, there's too much to be pitied and laughed at in the first instance.

It was at Espana 82 but I agree. The way that on his run up you saw him disappear from camera view then all of a sudden come haring back in with probably the hardest shot ever was quality. I'm pretty certain that the keeper actually managed to tip it on to the bar as well. Great shout though.
