  1. We'll have to agree to disagree there, then. As I said earlier, the thought of us boring our way to winning the League purely by containing rather than imposing ourselves leaves me cold. Ideally you want a good mix of the two but purely the former doesn't do it for me.
  2. Depends on the quality of your squad, I suppose.
  3. Good points.
  4. That if teams are unneccsarily gung ho, especially those at the lower end of the spectrum, they run the real risk of ending up in the sh*t, being relegated and then counting the cost of not being in the Premier League.
  5. If the price of failure wasn't so great for dropping out of the Premiership then I think you'd see a lot more attacking football than you do but again that's another issue.
  6. Where did I mention that word in the post. Check your facts. As for the variety of things to be entertained by other than football, I'm well aware of them but thanks for putting me straight there.
  7. It's each to his own. As I said, I don't subscribe to the we have to win every game 5-0 etc but a stylish attacking approach is, in the main, more likely to win you matches than not. Again, this isn't to the total detriment of the importance of being solid but recent history shows those that have played the best football, both defensively and attacking wise, are the ones who've brought home the bacon.
  8. It's not a case of entertainment, I'm just a fan of good football. It's not to say that if we scrape a 1-0 win after we've had a howler that i go home gutted, far from it. Only an idiot would think that we can win 5-0 every week playing Samba footy and that. However I would like the main thrust of our play to be based more towards attacking than simple containment. Clearly there's room for the two on the pitch but the former is left behind far too often IMO. I started going to the game with my mates at the beginning of the 86-87 season and yes, we probably were a bit spoilt but a few teaspoonfuls of the attacking verve from that period certainly wouldn't go amiss. Not to the total detriment of our defensive solidity but a more adventurous approach would make a big difference to a serious title challenge.
  9. I grew up watching my team play attacking, incisive football which luckily brought home trophies. I didn't really enjoy watching a lot of Houllier's stuff even though it yielded success and although Evans couldn't match the number of cups, his football was still great to watch (well, mostly). Some people will quite happily be bored to tears at the match as long as we win but that's not for me - I don't believe in a win at all costs attitude. As for the Spurs/Newcastle thing, f*cking grow up.
  10. Classic gloryhunter
  11. That's true to an extent but I think a lot of people unnecessarily denigrate what Mourinho did in that period. Yes, they weren't as expansive at times as the Mancs and to a greater extent Arsenal but they were still capable of steaming forward at will playing some great stuff. That's not to say that we can't or don't but our massive lack of pace and abundance of caution makes it rare rather than the norm. I would love for us to be known for our fluid attacking prowess rather than just being defensively solid.
  12. Maybe so but I would hate to think that the only way initially that we can win the league is by boring teams into submission. Style is pretty much as important as substance.
  13. So what you're saying is let's win the league by playing as s***e football as is necessary to win the league and then play entertaining proper football. Sounds like you're the gloryhunter there. What are you, a fan of trophies or a fan of football?
  14. There's your answer.
  15. Two reasons IMO; Rafa's uber caution even against the weakest of sides and the fact that teams who play and defend as poorly as Besiktas/Derby did are few and far between.

  17. Touche He met him afterwards and said that he was surprisingly chatty and personable, not quite how he'd expected him to be. Was happy enough to do photies and autographs as well.
  18. G&H aren't putting any of their own money into transfers, all they're doing is guaranteeing against the loans the club are taking out to buy the players. Which, in fairness, is what Abramovich does at Chelsea and exactly what you'd expect men like that to do. Nobody got richer spending his own money hand over fist.
  19. One of my mates (Manc) was at a sportsmens dinner last week where Fergie was the speaker and he said that Ginsoak was absolutely raving about Anderson. He said we probably won't see the very best of him until next season but he reckons that the kid's critics will soon be eating their words about him. He's a horrible little c*nt but he will be some player for them.
