There is no way that Werner wouldn't recognize a spoofer like Hodgson. Los Angeles and the TV business, where he made his money, is chock full of them. And a lot of them much cleverer with their bulls*** than RFH.

24th May. Think he'll somehow muddle on til then. Unfortunately

He's taught me that superstitions like wearing the lucky knickers are pointless

About ten years ago a mate of mine was at a series of discussions between the clubs about a groundshare. But Everton had no money and wanted us to pay for the whole stadium, so that they would in essence be our tenants. But they didn't want anyone - in particular their supporters - to know about this. We of course said no. I can't see that much has changed - it's not like the bluenoses have come into a load of cash, is it?

Time for someone to say, "Gimme eat..... Give everybody eat...."

Actually, by the time of the sale, Burns no longer worked at Granada and was on the board independently, appointed by Moores. Granada had another representative, John Cresswell.

His abusiveness fits in with stuff I've heard about the drunken way he and his mates have behaved in the director's box lounge area after games.

Poet Laureate remembers Hillsborough victims in new poem

I know a bloke who was involved in a lot of the discussions about the Parry bowl and he always said the major reason not to expand Anfield was the loss of short term income due to having reduced capacity while the work was carried out. Oh, and he also said that Everton wanted to share but they had no money and so tried to persuade us to pay for it, then rent it to them but pretend they part-owned it....

Think there's another problem with Ged - it's hard to think of a player he bought who he then improved. Whereas with Rafa, we expect improvement in new players once he gets hold of them and starts working on them and are disappointed if it doesn't happen.

I wasn't intending to give credit to Parry - he was just lucky that we needed someone at the same time as Rafa was pissed off at Valencia. But I do know that he was asked to sound out people in Europe as early as April in GH's last season to see who might be interested in taking over. And was apparently amazed by some of the impressive names who put themselves forward. Which again points away from Curbishley.....
-
Curbishley might have been interviewed as a back-up but it can't have been all that serious as Parry was told by the board to go out and find someone who had experience of winning at the top level - which can hardly be applied to him.

That's very sad news. He was a really nice man - drove to every away game rather than get the plane so he could take a sick friend with him. He will be much missed. RIP Bryce

It's the Ballad of Chairman Shankly - later adapted to also be the Ballad of Chairman Paisley. And it's disappeared - even his widow can't find a copy of it. So if anyone does have it, it'd be great - she'd love to have it. All I know are the first few lines: The East is red The West is red The North and South are too If you come from Leeds or Tottenham There's nothing you can do For the blues are paper tigers And the Southerners are worse From Pompeii up to Glasgow They rage and stamp and curse....

[all o'neill's actions - stirring this up in public; stripping barry of the captaincy; banning him from training and fining him; the offer of the new contract; the 'deadline' and the public statement - convince me that he's determined to claim the moral high ground. what i can't understand is why he's been so bitter towards LFC and why he's so hypocritical about how it's been played out in public. Been thinking about that. And have decided it's less to do with us and more to do with Villa and their position in the game. When MON joined them, he presumably thought he was going to be able to work some magic and turn them into a top four team. But making that move has become more and more difficult - and expensive - and over the last two years he has to have realized that his chances of success are small. He's bitter because he can't do what he wants. And sees the battle over Barry as symbolic of that - losing him would be final proof that Villa are not a big club.

As if the audience can only be interested in fluffy, "And, finally.." Do they think we're all that shallow?
-
It's cos of the time they have to fill. If England were there, they'd have at least five of the fifteen mins of half-time taken up with an interview with English manager or player/visit to training/piece about shopping and drinking wags. As they aren't, they've got to find something else to do. And they don't seem to have the imagination to do pieces about Spain or Holland or Turkey or whoever...
-
Actually, they do. Or at least they certainly used to. Before G & H took over, Rafa was given a budget every summer which encompassed both transfer fees and wages. Anything he could save on the wages, he could spend on the transfer fees. And vice versa...
-
As I remember, Rafa called him back from wherever he was on loan - St Etienne? - just before that game because of the injury situation

Bit like religion, really. It's up to you
