Discussion in the transfer thread about the youngsters got me thinking These days it's easy to find out who the "hot prospects" are coming up through the Academy 'cos the internet. In the pre-internet days you heard pretty much feck all about the ressies, but for those of you that live(d) in the city at the time that the likes of Fowler, Owen (and to an extent) Gerrard broke through, was there a buzz around about them being the next big thing? Or did they just show up in the first team and shock everyone with how good they are?

From what I read Jaros wasn't great and the back up wasn't much better when they tried him - so they put Jaros back in. Will be a good experience for him No idea if McConnell's been injured

McConnell barely played when Heitinga was there. Jaros was in and out of the team

Well we haven't really had a decent prospect out on loan in the last season an a half so it's not a particularly fair comparison. However, I'm not sure Slot would be that fussed given how little he uses players outside his core anyway.

It’s not so much the loan system not working - although that’s where a lot of the injuries manifest themselves - it’s just we seem to have a really high incidence of young promising players getting long term injuries. Dunno if that’s unique to us, or if it happens a lot at other clubs too

We seem to have a huge problem with the ressies going back years. Loads of our promising ones just haven't been able to stay fit through their late teens and early 20s meaning they've just not pushed on.

Frimpong still out but may be available for West Ham. Isak available end of March / early April if rehad carries on well
