i read your post as saying "we shouldnt worry about buying someone like Sturridge because he's used to the league and will hit the ground running".. i challenged that because it hasn't worked recently.. but if i read the above that i've quoted it's slightly different - essentially, what you're saying is, we should make signings but they should only be the ones that are right for the club and who will work out to be good.. i agree with that bit!
-
seriously, considering the Downing, Carroll and Henderson signings how can you even type that without pissing yourself laughing? or maybe you were?!
-
madness isn't it.. "well he might score 20-odd a season but can he play right wing?!".. seriously lads, we need to put that ball in the f***ing net.. end of! 2 things... 1) is that a compilation intended to show how good he is?? y'know like one of those compilations that show every flick, trick and goal that people get excited about? If so, it's not working (albeit i only gave it a minute and a half!) - in fact, it's having the opposite effect and giving me more reason to want to avoid.. 2) you shouldn't laugh at Fletcher.. he could single handedly boss Barca's midfield dontcha know..
-
i could sit here all day and talk to you about our need to just put the ball in the f***ing net rather than be looking for anything specific in relation to technique and how a striker should now be able to play in any position on the pitch.. the worry with what you describe above (for me at least) is that whilst its all very pretty and, dare i say, tiki taka, it leaves us with the issue that we don't have what could be considered an out and out goalscorer.. we would have players who can score goals but not a goal scorer (if that makes sense).. saying that, someone like David Villa could be fluent across the front three as you describe AND score the odd one or two (!!!) but he, or a player of his ilk, is exactly the kind of player i mean when i say i'd hope our scouts have a number of names that can fit the bill rather than just plumping for reasonably obvious English lads..

Walcott/Ba/Llorente/Huntelaar are all available - or possibles - due to their contract issues at their current clubs.. Llorente's completely out in the cold so may take him time to get up to speed but he's been fkin boss in the past so i don't doubt he could be again.. Huntelaar is a pure goalscorer.. Walcott, for me, has come on loads in the last 18 months or so.. Ba's got a cracking record and that has continued this season.. as i've said above too, i'd hope our scouts know not just about these but a multitude of others and therefore we could attract someone with a better scoring record than Sturridge.. should add that the contract issues of those above mean we'd be getting them for about half, or better, of what we would have been playing 12-18months ago.. for me its a no-brainer..
-
that's clearly not correct.. i would imagine you could get Walcott, Ba, Llorente or Huntelaar for that.. i would also hope our scouts - the ones we're so keen to get from City and the same ones City were so keen to put on gardening leave - to have a book containing about 20 extra names of good prospects who fit into that 12m (or lower) bracket.. if not, why not?!.. i would also hope that 12m isn't the upper limit that FSG are giving Rodgers to play with otherwise what's the point.. seriously, what is the f***ing point? i am so f***ing underwhelmed with this news about Sturridge.. really.. i don't think i've ever noticed one of our players celebrate a goal while at the match - too busy going off me cake..
-
you're gonna have to explain that one for me kid.. i don't see it myself.. jumped up little s***-dancing f***** if ever i saw one.. i can't stand him.. i'd love to know who's choice it is that we're looking - again - at expensive English signings when there's far better value to be had elsewhere.. in addition, i'd love to know if we've actually tried and failed for players like Walcott/Huntelaar etc as i'd be more inclined to think they'd do better than Sturridge who, at best, is a 1-in-4 striker (possibly 1-in-3 though that figure would include an incredible return for Bolton, something which i don't think has been emulated since)..

i've said it previously in this thread but there's value to be had in this January window with top class strikers available.. Walcott, Llorente and Huntelaar spring to mind and i'd deffo have a shot at Ba (didn't know this clause he has comes active again in Jan though i was calling for us to sign him ahead of Dempsey in the summer).. so there's four names all better, in my opinion, than Sturridge and all who could conceivably cost less on the initial transfer fee and possibly wouldn't cost that much more over the length of the contract.. all those would be available at about half of what they would cost had they had full contracts etc.. i'm concerned that the reports all state we're after Sturridge now, not least because i can't stand him but also cos i don't think he's good enough by a long way.. i understand that Suarez is working amazingly well as the main, central stirker at the moment but i wouldn't have any worries about moving him wide left.. it's not like he always plays centrally when he's supposed to.. he buzzes about where the f*** he wants anyway so asking him to start there means nothing.. it should be a case of "Luis, you go do what you do"..

Brendan Rodgers - New Liverpool Manager Barnsey_10 is a t**
owenthomas replied to Barnesy_10's topic in Liverpool FC
aye.. hate it when people say things like "anyone could win with that team".. it was never the case.. he took big decisions and made massive strides because of them.. Tito will no doubt have similar said about him and while he's yet to even begin getting near to what Pep did he's off to what some might call a f***ing good start!... -

i hate slagging players off but so many times the ball went to him and it was like a hot potato - he wanted rid straight away.. he's got no heart.. he's finished.. it's too big for him

right.. i've stated before that i really like Rodgers and think he'll do really well with us and, regardless of tonights result, i absolutely stand by that.. what is critical - ABSOLUTELY CRITICAL - is that he's backed in January to bring in some players of real quality.. i dont buy all that s*** that there's no value there in January and particularly this Jan when there's a few strikers out there coming to the end of their contracts and available at a fee that should have even FSG purring (Walcott/Llorente/Huntelaar to name three) - assuming they have even half an interest in whats going on like (i have severe doubts personally but that's another thread....) on top of this though we need to be patient with the manager.. it's a massive job for him.. he's not going to get everything right (even when he's been here for years he won't please everyone) so it's imperative that at a time when he could buckle that he knows we're behind him.. there's a few voices already starting to raise concerns and i've seen ample more on the likes of twitter and a few on here but stick by him and he'll come good - as long as he gets the right players and he's backed by FSG to get the right players...
