Good points there Spike. But for how long can you be a team in transit? I think its fair to say that last season we were a team in transition but before the start of this season many had huge expectations towards winning the league, including the players. I think its only positive that Rafa will be given funds to buy 1 or 2 world class players along with 1 or 2 very good players to enhance our first team squad in the summer. It will also tell us allot about Rafa, he's never had allot of money at his disposal before so to see how he fares come next season will be interesting. That?s a no-win situation, if we sign 1 or 2 players like Kaka or Rooney and win the league its inevitable that other team's fans and the media will say we bought the league. However, if the Arab gives us money to spend but Rafa still opts for the Zenden's and Pennant's of this world I don?t think we'll have to worry about us winning the league, let alone buying it.

I'd say today's performance was just a lack of class from certain areas off the pitch. Gerrard and Alonso coped well against a Boro 5 man midfield and dictated the play pretty much but its not their fault that Gonzalez, Pennant, Bellamy and Kuyt cant produce the end product!

Liverpool have never been about buying wonderkids, under Paisley and Dalglish we allways got the right players in at the right time. However, back then we had the money to buy those quality players.

We need a world class playmaker and build our team around him! Barca have Ronaldinho (and Messi), Real have Raúl (and Robinho), AC Milan have Kaka, Roma have Totti, Juventus had Del Piero..etc...We need a difference maker. Hate to say this but I wish we would've tried everything to get Wayne Rooney to Liverpool two years ago.

Agree with most of that. I think Benitez failed though miserably in the transfer window! He's too worried about having a big squad with average players rather then get some real quality in key areas. Now, to be fair he did do that in regards to Dirk Kuyt, he's quality, but Pennant, Gonzalez and Bellamy have let him down. What I was hoping after last season was that we'd improve our strikers, our right side and our left wing (and that's getting a better player then Kewell, not easy). Atm, Garcia and Gerrard are still our best wingers and Gerrard is still our most creative player, even in today's match! Looking at the teams around us both here in England and in europe, we dont have near enough attacking quality in our first 11, compare it to ManU or Chelsea, Real or Barca, we're not even close.

Utd also have fantastic attacking players, something we dont. The likes of Rooney, Saha, Giggs, Ronaldo, and Evra make up for the likes of Fletcher and O'Shea in midfield.
