Carra, reasonable game? He was s**** and should've been sent off in the process! And Hyypiä, 7? FFS! Alonso, Reina, Kuyt and Crouch are our only players who deserve a mention, the rest were dire.
-
We need Agger in the team asap! His distribution would make a huge difference and give Alonso more space. Hyypiä just isnt good enough and I still cant figure out why Benitez picks him ahead of Agger? Atm Agger's our best CB.
-
I guess it comes down to the fact that "a team's only as good as its players" or something like that. We deserve our league postition, we've been so s**** in the league this season and I think it comes down to the fact that Benitez didnt buy real quality in the summer, apart from Kuyt perhaps. We've got too many average players that get too many games, saying that though, it wouldnt suprise me if we wone another cup competition. After all, we are just a cup team.
-
I just cant understand why Agger isnt playing? Before he got injured he was by far our best CB and since then Hyypiä hasnt done anything to merit his inclusion in the squad ahead of Agger since he returned to full fitness. Honestly, we have the potential to be a very good passing side with the likes of Alonso, Agger, and Gerrard in the heart.
-
Gonzalez off! He's f*cking useless, no technique, no dribbling ability, no first touch, just Cissé mk2! And what the f*** is up with Benitez isolating our most creative and best player on the right? We do want to win, right?
-
Is Josemi still at Villareal?
-
please, don?t let your own bias get in the way of the fact that the lad's passing accuracy/ability is on the same altitude as Stevie f*cking Wonder.
-
Well I'm not; it either goes out for a throw-in or the opposition! And when he does make an accurate pass (off sorts) our players usually have to work for it so we don?t loose possession!
-
Momo's passing is still way too erratic and he shouldnt be allowed anywhere near the opposition's 18 yard box. I bet he'll never score a goal for us in open play and when the team attacks he should stay back and rather allow Alonso to move forward, honestly, his decision making is terrible and in 9 out of 10 he gives the ball away!

This weeks other CL games: match thread

Classic! Barcelona are winning and 6 minutes are added on, then Chelsea score and the ref ends the game after 5! -
dont get the hype, only difference between him and Cissé is that he's left footed.

Although I would love to see us play like we used to 10 years ago or so we just don?t have the quality to do so. We don?t have enough quality players, bar perhaps 2 or 3, that can receive the ball, hold on to it, and pass it to a teammate. Last season we were an excellent defensive/counter-attacking side where everyone's job was defending but now when Rafa tries to make us an attacking force we just don?t have enough quality attacking players. Kewell is still our best winger and Gerrard is still our biggest attacking threat. Rafa's policy of buying quantity over quality is not working and players like Pennant, Bellamy, Gonzalez, Crouch, Kuyt, Sissoko, Zenden and Aurelio get found out against quality opposition. I think we should revert to last season's tactics: 5 in midfield, 1 upfront, defend and counter-attack and grind out results.
-
Worked like that in the old days when we could break the bank for Dalglish, Beardsley, Barnes... how times have changed
-
Pennant gets plenty off the ball but he rarely runs at defenders, dribbles past them and delivers a cross. With him its either cross as soon as he recieves the ball or run infield.
-
Our only player that truly scares defenders is Gerrard, no one else can take the ball and dribble it past defenders and make something out of nothing.
-
Reina 3 Finnan 6 Carra 5 Hyypiä 5 Riise 5 Pennant 3 Alonso 5 Sissoko 5 Gerrard 7 Bellamy 4 Kuyt 4 Crouch 5 Garcia 4 Zenden 5
-
For me it was: Stevie Agger Garcia Momo was s****, incredible how many times he loses the ball and mis-hits it when he attempts to shoot!
-
Its frustrating to have the best midfielder in the world in your side and the manager constantly plays him out of position. I sometimes wonder why Benitez bothered with Gonzalez's work permit if he doesn?t rate him higher then Zenden. However, what?s so frustrating about the start of the season is that this is Benitez's side, not Houllier's, yet our start is similar to Benitez's 1st when the majority of the players were Houllier's purchases.

Pennant and Bellamy are excellent signings and will only improve the team. I havent seen enough of Alves to pass my judgement on him but I have seen plenty of Pennant and he's good enuff to be playing for any CL team and he's prem proven. I'll be disapointed if we sign Kuyt though, cant see what improvement he'll add to the team? He'd be just another target for Carra and Sami's countless hoofs from defense (witch we already witness too much whenever Crouch playes). Wish we'd rather go for someone of Tevez's ability (touch, techinque, and the odd moment of brilliance) and play proper footie.
-
Talking about overpaying, perhaps the Sevilla president has one eye locked on past incidents such as Diouf, Cissé, Diao, Cheyrou...
-
Surely our wide men cant be tempted to cross the ball when they've witnessed him miss sitters from 3 or 4 yards on more then one occasion?
-
His goalscoring/assist record says otherwise.
-
No. Starts: 43 Sub: 8 Goals: 11 (6 in prem) Assists: 7 (6 in prem) Shots: 114 Shots on goal: 54 Crouch is a good player but not good enuff to be a regular first team starter.

I think some of you are taking Gerrard for granted. He's been, by far, our best player this season, without him we would not have 73 points in the league this season and he was the one coming up with the goods when our strikers were firing blanks. I think we're very lucky to have both players in our team and wouldnt want to loose neither of them but, as he's done previously, when Gerrards out Alonso steps up and I'm sure Steive will do the same (not that he hasnt been doing so for most part of the season) if Alonso were to get injured.
