I got the sense we bought players from Southampton because they played a brand of football that was closest to ours, not necessarily they were the best in their position. There's always a premium to buying premier league players but if they slotted in right away to add depth, it could have been well worth it. I think Rodgers assumed integrating them into our style of play would not be an issue. I dont have much of a problem with our purchases last summer - everything's easier on hindsight. The only purchase that I didnt understand was Balotelli. And I am more than 50% sure that was economically driven as in 16m seemed too low to ignore. They probably thought with his profile, they cant possibly lose more than 5m 1vs a more expensive option who flops. The only way to win the league would be to throw ridiculous money at it. Something our club would not be doing anytime soon.
