And obviously I'm not expecting that we'll sign someone as good as peak Mo. I'm just saying that when we sign players, there's an instinctive "yeah, that's such an us signing" and there have been quite a few players moving who ordinarily you'd think were right up our street. Like Manuel Fernandes, Akliouche, Manzambi, Joao Gomes, Trincao, Anthony Gordon, Van Hecke, Vuskovic, Palestra, Bazoumana Toure, Senesi, these feel like Liverpool sorts of signings. I think most of them would be players that we could make use of, and we didn't get involved in any of them. There aren't really any right wingers for example who jump out as "yeah, that's the one".

I'm not even sure who we *should* target. Like who is our Mo replacement? There aren't many obvious options. The sort of players that I would have looked at as our sort of profile would be people like Akliouche, Rodrygo, maybe Karim Adeyemi, but there's not really a stand out option. Same at right back. Who are we looking at there? There's not a stand out candidate there either.

Well in that respect, I have good news for you.

So I did the maths. Based on proportional representation at the current World Cup, that would have been: 5 more European sides, which would have been Italy, Poland, Kosovo, Denmark and maybe Ukraine as the highest seeded Playoff team to get eliminated, but who knows. There's only really a clear way to pick 4 sides. 3 more African teams, which would have been Nigeria, Cameroon, and Gabon. 3 more Asian teams, which would have been UAE, Oman and Indonesia 2 more South American sides which would have been Bolivia and Venezuela 2 more North and Central American sides, which would have been Jamaica and Suriname 1 more OFC team, which would have been New Caledonia. So some actually reasonably good sides who just had s*** qualifications. And also some absolute cannon fodder.
