The atmosphere will never get back to the peak of the 60's and 70's. Different social class of supporters, all-seat stadia, saturation tv coverage, higher level of expectation etc.

Things I miss about football from 20-30 years ago: Standing on The Kop Relatively cheap to get in Less commercial No men dressed as mascots walking around the ground Very few people who you couldn't learn something about footie from at the match Feeling you were part of the world's biggest family I don't miss: Falling over on The Kop and ending up with loads of people on top of you Terrible toilet facilities Fights galore outside the ground Racism Queuing for hours to get in Not all rosy then.

Watched the game with a mate. Load of Scots guys in the pub standing near us. Belarus score, they clap and cheer. My mate goes fing nuts. I had to move him into the other bat to calm him down. He used to have a neutral attitude, bordering on mild support for Scotland (as a home nation). Having been to Aberdeen on business loads he's seen England play on tv in bars there a few times. Now he's anti, having seen lots of "we'll support any team who play England". Tolerance is what's needed.

Up here in the NE (of England), they are constantly surprised by my "club before country" belief. I'm surprised that they're surprised.

Had Dalglish still been there he'd have them in a much better situation in every respect than they're in now. They've had a ludicrous number of managers now.
