They were all short-term measures who all contributed in one way shape or form, even if just from a moral POV. Kronkamp made us money! Josemi covered some very poor form from Finnan, Nunez was a great contributor ina few matches and Pellegrino was reputedly a great influence on the coaching. Does this frustration relate to your expectations or what he delivered - if you compare Morientes to Crouch then Crouch has been a much much better return on investment - yes? And for a similar outlay. But he did - those were the market economics at the time - just like if we want Bent this Summer we'll have to pay the going rate - which will be decided by a number of factors, many of which we won't control. I can see, please don't take this as patronizing, what you are driving at above but I feel that given the resources available we have had some very good value from these players - those who have under-performed have been moved on quickly and with little upset to the club. Those who have genuine promise, anyone remember how poorly Finnan played for a period, have been challenged and nurtured back to better form. If we can do this with a few more of the prospects (Gonzales, Pennant etc) then the investment of time will pay off.

Objective 1 - win Objective 2 - win with attractive football NB - Option 2 is a nice to have... F@ck off Mr Valdano - you are blind to the truth.

OK - someone with a better understanding than me will have to correct this.... Am I right in saying that £14m which was paid 3 years ago was on a 5 year contract - therefore on accounting terms his value would be written down to the value of £2.8m each year. If he is sold this Summer at £3.5m then it will only be a loss of £2.4m.... Or am I barking up the wrong tree? (Mervyn King I ain't)

I have a rule query. Pennant came on last night and towards the end of the match knocked the ball past Lampard (inside line I think), Lampard grabbed hold of him with both hands and pulled him back. Pennant got free and the refereee waved on play.... Question - if the referee has waved on play should he not have booked the fat, duck lipped nonce regardless? Just asking like....

an observatio from last night and a question, I was sat in the West Stand in a Chelsea season ticket holders seat...... - the Chelsea fans were gutted not to have put more than 1 past us, they were baying for another goal. They should have scored again against a pretty dire performance from us. I personally think that last night's result and the ensuing debate will serve to galvanise the effort and focus of the team for next week. I strongly believe that we have the passion, crowd and skill to get through to Athens. - did anyone else hear the stadium announcer ask for "one more wave of your flags" just after the final whistle?
