Measures to ensure continuity in companies (who are bought or merge with others), have a very early start date - it is rare that the company is taken by surprise by a sale or change of ownership (the customers/fans may be but those who are leading the organisation are not). Wouldn't surprise me at all if they'd seen both designs and expressed a preference. Both are/were publicly available.

No reasons based on experience but we haven't had fanbase owned successful clubs in England before. However the ownership is not necessarily the issue in my view, its the continued management of the club as a whole, the ongoing development of it's ability to generate revnue and to then plough that revenue into team success.
