Yeah good shout re Suarez too. I do think Mane can defend and track back better though. Suarez was a more potent attacking talent and also excelled at set pieces. Also Suarez left before Gerrard did.
I might be seen as exaggerating here, but I think he is the most complete player we've had since Gerrard. Shooting, passing, tackling, heading, strength..........I think freekick taking may be the one missing.
His first season with us was sensational. He was too good to be true at times. 33 goals was it? He missed a lot of the 08/09 season due to injury. Had he been fit we may have well pipped the Mancs to the league that year. His two late goals against Chelsea and his late winner against Portsmouth were the stuff of legend too. I was gutted when he left. He was never the same player after he left too.
Was again listening to the Radio 5 commentary for the Barca game yesterday evening. My wife called out from the other room and asked whether Liverpool were playing. Told her that it was the commentary from the Barca game. Then later I was watching this video of the CL celebrations in different countries and she looked at me and exclaimed "Are you still watching stuff related to the Champs Lge win?"..............erm YES!
Carra more than Gerrard but both were not the automatic first XI starters they were to become over time. I met them in early 2000 and 99/00 was the season when Gerrard really got a regular run in the side with 31 appearances.
I met Murphy back in 2000 and didn't like him at all. Very full of himself and made it very clear he was not really interested in talking to an awe struck fan. Carra and Stevie were tagging along with him and he was clearly the "leader" of that trio back then. Both Carra and Stevie were not established regulars in the team at the time. I then met Didi a few mins later and he was actually very nice.
