Aye, but the bold part is another one of those cliches too. John Aldridge, Ray Houghton, Steve McMahon, Steve Nicol, Jim Beglin, etc...we've had a lot of players who wouldn't be readily called "world class", but they were huge parts of our team because they worked well in our system. I think Pennant could easily be part of a title winning team for us. Would he be the star? No. Would he create more goals than anyone else? Probably not. But the lad has talent and a fantastic work rate most of the time, 2 things that those players I mentioned above had too.

That's absolute balls. ONE of the fouls that were called against him really was a foul. The rest were great tackles which the ref was calling because Masch was the only player on the field getting stuck in.

To be fair, on paper at the start of the season this was the "weakest" looking ManUre team for a while. VDS, Scholes, Giggs, Neville are all approaching the end of their careers, and Saha didn't look like he'd blossom into the striker you needed. Vidic has been a rock for you, VDS has been outstanding, Evra has settled well, Larsson got you out of a bit of a rut, and Ronaldo has been infuriatingly outstanding after a summer that looked like he'd leave England. Can't really blame people for thinking it wasn't going to be the Mancs year, I think most of us will grudgingly admit they've been far better than expected.

Fantastic gesture - even more so because nobody would have said much about it if it wasn't done.

I think Jimmy hit the nail on the head - earlier in the season he was scoring goals, but his closing down of defenders had gotten pretty poor, and the old appreciative Crouch was in danger of turning into "Why didn't you pass it to me" Crouch. He's come through that well and gotten back to what he was always good at - being a team player.

Aye, he's been marvelous. Can see why Rafa liked him so much, especially since he doesn't seem to go to ground until absolutely necessary. Really like him.
