Good post, but I don't think this part is fair. Benitez was determined to keep Gerrard at any cost, and I could be mistaken but I don't think he was in the final year of his contract. Owen, according to people in the know, was told he could either sign a new contract or go. I'd take him for 9 million, because I think he's still a fantastic finisher. People talk about him losing his pace which is true, but he was actually very skillful too and now he's bulked up.

Valdano doesn't matter to Rafa, but Liverpool obviously does. Any fantatical Liverpool supporter, upon hearing Valdano's comments, would have come up with a paragraph or 2 of comebacks, not just a one-liner. Rafa simply did the same thing, and I'm proud as f**k for what he said.
