I received some bad news yesterday, Jim Wafer who lost his son Colin in the disaster passed away. Jim was a good friend of mine, he actually interviewed me and gave me my 1st job at Owen Owen back in Feb 89 when I was 18. He was my boss, I remember on the Friday before Hillsborough, I was on the night shift, Jim popped his head in to tell me to behave at the game and look at for his son, as he said, "Can't miss our Colin, he has bright red hair". Well 2 weeks later, when Jim came back in after everything, he came to see me and told me not to be guilty that I came home and other people didn't. We worked together till Owen Owen folded and i moved to Kent to a new job, but we kept in touch and he always kept me up to date on what the families where doing to get Justice. Only time he ever got slightly annoyed with me over Hillsborough, was when I bought a HJC red band, as the HFSG one's weren't out . When my mug appeared in the Echo when the police were looking for witnesses for Operation resolve, Jim was straight on the phone to me and his solicitor to make sure the police could get hold of me, 5 days later I was in court in Warrington with Jim there, as I walked to the stand he said to me "Tell the truth kid and nail the b*****ds". Afterwards he introduced me to Mrs Aspinel as I was told to call her, she soon made sure I called her Margaret. I left court knowing he still had Colin's inquest to go through but he said, Justice is coming kid. I last saw Jim on the 15th April this year, he had a ticket for me for the service, of course as Jim always did, he was on the door of the centenary organizing everyone coming in, and making sure the families knew where to go. If you were there, he was one of the guys on the pitch letting the birds go, I gave him so much stick about his new job of a bird handler, he did tell me he had a way with the Birds, but don't tell Mrs Wafer Jim, RIP, it was an honor to work and know you, I am glad you got Justice for Colin, and I know you are up there having a pint with him, and still losing on the horses.
