I'm surprised to find I do have some sympathy for Parry as a Liverpool fan. But his major failing was his arrogance, and an inability to realise his own limitations. As a CEO its imperative to build a team around you of the best possible people that you can trust. Parry tried to do it all himself, at a time when Liverpool desperately needed to drag the club forward in terms of sales, marketing, ticketing, merchandising, match day revenue AND the footballing side. Ironically I think his greatest successes were in terms of choosing managers, Houllier dragged us back into contention and helped lay foundations and Rafa has put us back in Europe's elite. I don't think any one man could have been CEO, done the transfers and tried to run the commercial interests all at once. He was unable to delegate, or build a team to do this. His greatest failing though was over H & G, and him keeping his job and getting a bonus reeked of self service. No one is perfect, and people in business make mistakes all the time. But I don't think history will be too kind to Rick Parry. Nor David Moores for that matter.
