I'm 42 as well and you are talking bolox. Whelan was a great player and very underrated, very similar to Hamann. He did the donkey work. Players like Gerrard come about once every 10-20 years, and by the time he has finished his career I expect him to be recognised as Liverpool's greatest ever midfielder, maybe even the greatest ever player to wear the red shirt. He can do absolutely anything, Whelan couldn't. Whelan had his position and did a job. Gerrard can play anywhere, any how. He's our best midfeilder, our best wide man and even our best full back. He is quite simply a truly magnificent footballer.
