Just a theory but what I think happened is this; the approach to Hull was made at the 6m figure mentioned and this was done on the basis that the fee would be heavily back-ended with only an amount roughly equivalent to what we paid AEK for the Greek offered up front, and that Hull would accept a loanee (remember how they were looking for any striker?). G&H would sign off on this amount, even though it breached the revised spending guidelines, on an exception basis, as Turner or more likely Skrtel was a readily saleable commodity if the financial situation demanded it next summer. Ultimately there was only 1.5m for the Greek as he has no re-sale value and also doesn't allow another player to be sold as Turner would allow Skrtel or even Agger to be 'realised' as I'm sure G&H think of it.
