Chanting was right at the end - from the upper left corner of the Lansdowne Rd end - I was 15 at the time and it made a big impression at the time as it felt like I was at a game in England! Cas did indeed get that goal. Great atmospehere at that game. Charlton psyched Taylor out of playing Gazza - Gordon Cowans was recalled specifically for that match.

I remember limited "Eoin Hand out" chants at the Denmark game but more particularly at the 0-0 v Norway when we were truely abject. By the time of the Denmark game it was more or less accepted he'd be gone. Also the England game you mentioned wasn't in 93 - it was a Euro 92 qualifier. The one where McCarthy almost scored with a free from the half way line on the West Stand side.....

Ireland team ; Given Irwin Lawrenson McGrath Staunton Heighway Brady Roy Keane Duff Stapleton Robbie Keane Subs; Bonner, O'Leary, Moran, Whelan, Aldridge, Quinn, Houghton Only players I have seen....saw Giles but he was ancient and crap in 1979.... -
At least he knows how to organise a defence. Wouldn't have 'issues' about recalling Carsley either. Says it all when Carsley is the man who might stop the rot.....

David O'Leary.

Proves the cliche about form being temporary and class being permanent. Although the the loss of form at Anfield went on a little long.

Rafa as well as the players has to take the blame
passater replied to Shanklyanfield's topic in Liverpool FC
So it was Rafa who didn't make a clearance that my 7 year old manages every weekend? It was Rafa who didn't see the handball? It was Rafa who gave Sami the double injection of lard in his a***? It was Rafa who decided to juggle the ball on his own goal line? And it was definitely Rafa who had Xabi in a headlock. We have spent the summer blowing about how good the squad is now with depth everywhere. The starting eleven had enough to beat Everton. They just didn't get it done. -
Yes we can recall him. Charlton would only loan their keeper Anderson to Leeds on the same basis they had Carson from us - 24 hour recall.

There was a lot of talk in Ireland at the time that Souness didn't like Irish players, hence the sudden departures of Houghton and Staunton for no obvious reason and with no ready-made replacements of the same quality. Houghton was a cog in a machine. He couldn't be the 'main man' and demonstrated this for Ireland on occasions when key central midfielders were absent (one of the Spain away games comes to mind). Likewise, when McCarthy played him n central midfield as the 'playmaker' late on in his career when he was at Palace. He wasn't up to it.

Great info on here. Bit ignorant on these matters so need this type of guidance before getting the ITVN. How do I know what my bandwith is? I'm a Cablevision optimum online subscriber in metro NY so my connection is cable not DSL....do I have to call them to find out?

Lille and AEK have moved up a pot due to Ajax losing. Makes Lille the best draw in Pot 2. Huge difference between getting Copenhagan and Hamburg in Pot 4. http://www.uefa.com/competitions/UCL/news/...sId=447892.html

Thanks for that Cornhusker. Bit hard on Andy T there, he wasn't that bad in that clip.

He is crap beyond belief. Why not get Boumsong too while we are at it?

Anyone know anything about tickets for the above? Its on in Liechenstein on 29 July and will be 2 hours away on the day. Visiting from the US and time is tight so don't want to turn up on spec and be disappointed. The offal says its on at 5.30pm local time; the Kaiserslautern site says its 15.30...maybe someone somewhere doesn't know their 24hr clock Any info at all appreciated....would be bringing a 7 year old to his first game...

Neill is a thug. He got his comeuppance. Its been a while coming.

Excellent posts fyds. Any chance they can be put in as a 'sticky' at the top of the board and Parry-doubters can be directed there in future?

Portugal v Iran | Czech Republic v Ghana | Italy v USA
passater replied to Benitez 's topic in General Football Discussion
Agree fully. Mastreoni's tackle was late, two footed and in front of the ref. Couldn't believe Balboa and then Lalas going on and on about some sort of conspiracy on ABC. Serves me right from switching from Univision. McBride was shown up for the limited Paul Dickov type that he is. Donovan was a waste of space, the odd run excepted. Beesley proved Arena right - gutless and witless. Reyna did well as did Mastreoni before the red card. Italy were barely worthy of comment. Looked a bit like Milan during our little spell in the CL final. They are going out if they play the Czechs like that. Ref did not help then with a succesion of woeful offside decisions (or 'offsides calls' as we like to say in the US of A). -

Foudy is spectacularly useless. Its at least her second WC and she's still nervous. Trying to make Brian McBride into Thierry Henry at HT..... -
Stupid effin' American commentators

The picture quality was far better on Univision than on ESPN2. Also, you don't have the annoying ticker on the bottom of the screen. Plus no annoying no-nothing Americans commentating. -

In fairness, Balboa called it right on Beckham - sits out on the right and doesn't get involved. Ashley Cole not up to much today. -

18 League Titles 5 European Cups 7 FA Cups 3 European Super Cups 7 League Cups Carlsberg dont do honours list but if they did they would probably be the best honours list in the world UEFA Cups don't work for you then? -
Nando was a very good player and still has his moments. He has just lost 'it'. Maybe not playing for Real for half a year when in his peak years didn't help. I remember the sudden realisation that McMahon just wasn't the same player anymore, its the same with Nando. When he set up Riise in the Carling Cup final I thought that was the start of something great - he was superb in that move. But there were very few other moments like that. 258 posts from a standing start in 16 days says otherwise
