Adam would have played a lot less if Lucas and Gerrard had been available all / most of the season. Often it's come down to either him or Henderson in the centre and Adam has been chosen as Henderson is probably too light weight at this stage - hopefully that'll change as he develops and matures.

When Carroll signed there were lots of rumours about how the fitness team couldn't believe the his lack of upper body work / overall weight conditioning during his time at Newcastle. Has he maybe been put on an weights regime - which could have a short term effect of dulling his sharpness - he certainly doesn't seem to have the "spring" to his jumps that he showed at newcastle - and also in his first few games for us.

I agree that the main aim of the Utd floatation will be to benefit the Glazer's financially - however if they have vastly reduced debt re-payments then there is the possibility of more going towards transfers. Although they've spent big this season they have been relatively quiet the previous couple of seasons and thats despite the Ronaldo money.

But any borrowing will have a financial impact until the stadium is up and running and providing the additional revenue - FSG will need to make up any shortfall during that time if we are to stay at the same level of transfer spending. They may well be happy to do so and prefer to do this rather than a partial float - but I'm sure they will be looking at the finances of any Utd deal closely.

Moving away form the Chelsea / Man City bdebate - with the Glazers rumoured to be looking at floating approx 25-30% on the Singapore stock market, is it something that FSG may well look at as well - in particular to look at raising funding for either a new stadium or redevelopment of Anfield? Similar (but hopefully not too similar) to the ill-fated deal that Parry looked at with Shinawatra. The Glazers are obviously doing it to reduce the debt primarily for their own benefit but it is likely to free up more transfer cash for Utd to spend. For FSG it would hopefully not be a case of them pocketing the money but of stadium investment and by dong so increasing the value of the club - which will benefit them in the long term as 75% of a much bigger club would be better than 100% at the current value.

I think the comment that they only seem to be being judged against H&G is a fair point. I don't think FSG will put any of their own money in - in fact they didn't clear all the transfer debts as part of the takeover did they? As long as UEFA enforce the FFP rules then medium to long term they look like they'll be able to get us competitive again but very much along an (improved) Moores / Parry model i.e. the club as a business has to pay for itself. If FSG were to put their own money into anything it'll be better to put into stadium (re-)development as that would be outside of FFP. I think Carroll is a superb propect and could be our Drogba - unfortunately he could be our Gazza and that to me is where the risk is with him. The £50m for Torres could well have been a one off opportunity to do a quick catch up for the last 2 years underinvestment. Hopefully I'm proved wrong in the summer - the rumoured bids for Richards and Young are promising in that regard - but I'll be surprised if net spend then is more than £30m which is what we would expect from the clubs improved commercial performance combined with no takeover debts to pay for.
