Big G Superhero Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 (edited) The Chavs were really not that good against us... maybe the best team we've played at home, just, pipping Spuds, but that's the most unjust 4-1 I've ever seen. It was worthy of at most a 1-1. Drogba, MOTM apparently, was f***ing s****, 1 piece of skill against a very ill Hyypia notwithstanding... Of the lesser games, I thought Fulham looked really good going forward against us, even if we did t*** them in the end Musn't grumble when it's a struggle to name an outstanding performance against us. I'd say the only time we came close to being outclassed was Arsenal away, and we were under-par that day. Otherwise, it's blatantly obvious that Rafa's plan of controlling games is paying off bigtime. Edited April 16, 2006 by Big G Superhero
Maldini Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 Thought Spurs flattered to deceive. Chelsea beat us because we stopped playing for 30 minutes, they were no better than us truth be told. Truth be told, the games we've lost this season were all our own fault rather than any great performances from the opposition.
smithdown Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 Benfica at Anfield. Took all we had and then slipped in a couple of goals. Agree If we'd have done what they did we would be going on about it for ages. Winning away against the European Champions? Sure we missed chances, but Simao's goal and the composure they showed after that was admirable. No wonder their supporters were going beserk, and were singing "Liverpool" after the final whistle. They'd won away at the holders own ground and had deserved it. Class.

Beardsley Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 Arsenal away. They dominated us like no other team this season. The worst I felt for our boys the whole year.
ricflairandy Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 Fulham. Arsenal away were not great, t** took 2 fabregas dives to get alonso sent off and a gerrard backpass to gift them a goal.
Earl Hafler Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 Benfica at Anfield. Took all we had and then slipped in a couple of goals. We should have been 2 or 3 up by the time they scored. I thought they played well but not as good as Spurs or Chelsea.I think Spurs deserve more credit as against Chelsea we were chopping and changing and i'm still receiving counselling after seeing Riise at centre back. Drogba had one of those days that Shaun Bartlett or Clive Mendonca had once every season.
Mike Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 Fulham. Arsenal away were not great, t** took 2 fabregas dives to get alonso sent off and a gerrard backpass to gift them a goal. correct
smithdown Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 there's absolutely no doubt they deserved it but it doesn't make them the best team we've played I dunno, some test of nerve for them that was - nobody game them a chance and they made it look quite comfortable in the end and look how close they ran Barca in the next round.
Mike Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 I dunno, some test of nerve for them that was - nobody game them a chance and they made it look quite comfortable in the end and look how close they ran Barca in the next round. but we weren't playing well at the time.couldn't score in a brothel.
abc Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 Chelsea 2nd half away was a clinical performance from them. However, as with the match at Anfield, we were the better team for 30 mins until we fecked up defensively. After going a goal up, they were comfortable. Arsenal away is about as tough a match we've played all season. Still we held on until Stevie's howler. Incidentally the Mancs were sh*te against us all three matches this season. A win, a draw and a loss is indicative of the gap between both teams. We may yet finish second, depending on the Spurs match. Win that, and we won't catch them. Providing of course, we win today.
Ombudsam Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 I dunno, some test of nerve for them that was - and they had failed horribly after about 30 mins we were just running through them. I don't want it to seem like i'm saying they didn't deserve it cos they did but they should have been buried after 30mins. That wasn't them playing very well
Benzo-13 Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 It was Chelsea.. Only team to beat us at home in the league, never a 4-1 though..

Guest ziggystardust Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 i thought spurs were good but not very threatening only really had the one chance. so i wouldnt say they were all that good. chelsea are easily the best team we have played as we really dont look like beating them

That wasn't them playing very well I seem to recall another recent European game where a side dominated for the first period and yet the other side managed to get a million people on the streets celebrating the next day. Sure they were under pressure and we failed to take chances but they rode their luck and then strolled to a historic victory (for them). Maybe its just cos I was in the Anny Road right next to them and could see what it meant to them as they began to believe they had a chance. They were no Valencia like but still...

SouthAfricaRed Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 well I am sure we can find a good excuse for all our defeats. I can't find one for the Chavski match at Anfield. Sami was sick Benfica was the only game where I thought that Rafa had been outsmarted.
monkey puzzle Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 Behave, Benfica was balls, we should of been 3 up by their goal if you think different you're nuts
Spike Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 Two great goals by Benfica edges it for me, although there's not really been one game where I've thought 'we have been well and truly t******'. We should have beaten them but we didn't due to a couple of moments of sheer brilliance combined with poor finishing / lack of luck / whatever. Arsenal away comes close but we were nailed on for a draw until the backpass from Stevie, possibly could have won it as we were in the ascendancy at that point. It's a good sign though that we are in a position to have this debate in the first place
